Storyboard: Maya walks out of the airport into the warm, humid January air. A friendly fellow passenger notices her excitement and asks what her name is and where she is from. Maya introduces herself with a smile.
ഞാൻ ഇപ്പോൾ എയർപോർട്ടിന് പുറത്താണ്.I am now outside the airport.
ഇത് ജനുവരി മാസമാണ്.It is the month of January.

"നിങ്ങൾ എവിടെ നിന്നാണ്?" അവർ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Where are you from?" she asks.
"ഞാൻ മെക്സിക്കോയിൽ നിന്നാണ്.""I am from Mexico."
അവർ വളരെ നല്ലൊരു സ്ത്രീയാണ്.She is a very nice woman.
"കൊച്ചിയിലേക്ക് സ്വാഗതം," അവർ പറയുന്നു."Welcome to Kochi," she says.
കൊച്ചി എനിക്ക് പുതിയ നഗരമാണ്.Kochi is a new city to me.
ഇത് നല്ലൊരു സ്ഥലമാണ്.This is a good place.
എന്റെ പുതിയ ജീവിതം ഇവിടെയാണ്.My new life is here.
the taxi
Storyboard: Maya puts her bag into a taxi and gives the driver her new address. The driver asks if she is a tourist visiting Kochi. She shakes her head and proudly explains that she is a software engineer.
അവിടെ ഒരു ടാക്സി ഉണ്ട്.There is a taxi there.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ വലിയ ബാഗ് ടാക്സിയിൽ വെക്കുന്നു.I put my big bag in the taxi.
ഞാൻ ടാക്സിയിൽ കയറുന്നു.I get into the taxi.
ഡ്രൈവർ എന്നെ നോക്കുന്നു.The driver looks at me.
"മാഡം, സ്ഥലം എവിടെ ആണ്?" അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Madam, where is the place?" he asks.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ പുതിയ വിലാസം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കൊടുക്കുന്നു.I give him my new address.
"സ്ഥലം നഗരത്തിന് അടുത്താണോ?" അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Is the place near the city?" he asks.
"അതെ, ഫ്ലാറ്റ് എന്റെ ഓഫീസിന് അടുത്താണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes, the flat is near my office," I say.
ടാക്സി മുന്നോട്ട് പോകുന്നു.The taxi goes forward.
"നിങ്ങൾ എവിടെ നിന്ന് ആണ്?" അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Where are you from?" he asks.
"ഞാൻ മെക്സിക്കോയിൽ നിന്ന് ആണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."I am from Mexico," I say.
"മെക്സിക്കോ, വളരെ നല്ലത് മാഡം," അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു."Mexico, very good, madam," he says.
ടാക്സി എന്റെ പുതിയ ഫ്ലാറ്റിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.The taxi is going to my new flat.
suitcase struggle
Storyboard: Maya wrestles her heavy suitcase over the threshold of her new apartment building. She finds her door, inserts the key, and pushes her luggage inside the dark room.

എങ്കിലും, ഞാൻ കൊച്ചിയിൽ ആണ്.Still, I am in Kochi.
ഞാൻ ഇരുട്ടിൽ ചിരിക്കുന്നു.I smile in the dark.

Storyboard: Maya flicks the switch on the wall to start the overhead ceiling fan. She walks around the room, relieved to see that there is a comfortable bed and a sturdy table for her computer.
ഇത് എന്റെ പുതിയ മുറി ആണ്.This is my new room.
ഇവിടെ നല്ല ചൂട് ഉണ്ട്.It is very warm here.
ചുമരിൽ ഒരു സ്വിച്ച് ഉണ്ട്.There is a switch on the wall.

മുകളിൽ സീലിംഗ് ഫാൻ കറങ്ങുന്നു.The ceiling fan spins above.

എനിക്ക് വലിയ ആശ്വാസം ഉണ്ട്.I feel a great relief.
ഞാൻ മുറിയിൽ നടക്കുന്നു.I walk around the room.
ഞാൻ ചുറ്റും നോക്കുന്നു.I look around.
ഇവിടെ ഒരു കട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ട്.There is a bed here.
അത് വളരെ സുഖം ഉള്ള ഒരു കട്ടിൽ ആണ്.It is a very comfortable bed.

Storyboard: Maya leans out the window to look at the lush green trees. She feels the pleasant January sea breeze against her face and misses the familiar streets of Mexico for a brief moment.
ഇപ്പോൾ രാവിലെ ആണ്.Now it is morning.
ഞാൻ ജനലിന്റെ അടുത്താണ്.I am near the window.
ഞാൻ ജനൽ തുറക്കുന്നു.I open the window.

ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഈ നല്ല കാറ്റ് ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നു.Now I enjoy this good breeze.

Storyboard: Maya sits on the edge of the bed and makes an audio call to her mother back in Mexico. She tells her family that she is safely in her flat and that she is happy.
കൊച്ചിയിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ വൈകുന്നേരം ആണ്.It is evening in Kochi now.
എന്റെ മുറിയിൽ ഒരു കട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ട്.There is a bed in my room.

ഞാൻ എന്റെ അമ്മയെ വിളിക്കുന്നു.I call my mother.
അമ്മ മെക്സിക്കോയിൽ ആണ്.Mom is in Mexico.
"ഹലോ മായാ," അമ്മ പറയുന്നു."Hello Maya," Mom says.
"അമ്മേ, ഞാൻ കൊച്ചിയിൽ ആണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Mom, I am in Kochi," I say.
"നീ ഫ്ലാറ്റിൽ ആണോ?" അമ്മ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Are you in the flat?" Mom asks.
"അതെ അമ്മേ, ഞാൻ എന്റെ ഫ്ലാറ്റിൽ ആണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes Mom, I am in my flat," I say.
"അവിടെ എല്ലാം സുരക്ഷിതം ആണോ?" അമ്മ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Is everything safe there?" Mom asks.
"അതെ, ഞാൻ ഇവിടെ സുരക്ഷിതയാണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes, I am safe here," I say.
"നിനക്ക് അവിടെ നല്ല ജോലി ഉണ്ടോ?" അമ്മ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Do you have a good job there?" Mom asks.
"ഉണ്ട് അമ്മേ, എനിക്ക് ഇവിടെ നല്ല ജോലി ഉണ്ട്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes Mom, I have a good job here," I say.
"സോഫിയയും ഡീഗോയും എവിടെ ആണ്?" ഞാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Where are Sofia and Diego?" I ask.
"അവർ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്," അമ്മ പറയുന്നു."They are here," Mom says.
"നമ്മുടെ നായ ലോലയും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്," അമ്മ പറയുന്നു."Our dog Lola is also here," Mom says.
ഞാൻ ഫോൺ വെക്കുന്നു.I hang up the phone.

Storyboard: Maya steps out into the hallway, and the door next to hers opens. A kind woman smiles, introduces herself as Anitha, and asks Maya where she is from.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ വാതിൽ തുറക്കുന്നു.I open my door.
ഞാൻ പുറത്തേക്ക് വരുന്നു.I step outside.
അടുത്ത വാതിൽ തുറക്കുന്നു.The next door opens.
അവിടെ ഒരു സ്ത്രീ ഉണ്ട്.There is a woman there.
അവർ ചിരിക്കുന്നു.She smiles.
"നമസ്കാരം, നിങ്ങൾ പുതിയ ആളാണോ?" അവർ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Hello, are you new?" she asks.
"അതെ, ഞാൻ ഇവിടെ പുതിയതാണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes, I am new here," I say.
"എന്റെ പേര് അനിത ആണ്," അവർ പറയുന്നു."My name is Anitha," she says.
"നിങ്ങളുടെ പേര് എന്താണ്?""What is your name?"
"എന്റെ പേര് മായ ആണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."My name is Maya," I say.
"നിങ്ങൾ എവിടെ നിന്നാണ്?" അനിത ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Where are you from?" Anitha asks.
"ഞാൻ മെക്സിക്കോയിൽ നിന്നാണ്.""I am from Mexico."
"മെക്സിക്കോ!""Mexico!"
"അത് വളരെ ദൂരെയാണോ?""Is that very far?"

Storyboard: Maya returns to her room and opens her suitcase. She unpacks her clothes and places a cheerful photo of her sister Sofia, her brother Diego, and their dog Lola on the table.
