Storyboard: Maya walks into a large supermarket in Kochi and grabs a shopping cart. She navigates the aisles, picking up the heavy bags of local rice and lentils she wants for her pantry.

Storyboard: In the beverage aisle, Maya looks at the many different boxes of local tea. She likes Indian tea very much, so she selects a box of cardamom tea and places it in her cart.

Storyboard: In the spice section, Maya cannot find the black pepper. She asks a friendly store assistant, and he points out a specific brand of black pepper that he likes.
ഞാൻ മസാലകളുടെ ഭാഗത്ത് എത്തുന്നു.I reach the spice section.
എനിക്ക് കുരുമുളക് വേണം.I want black pepper.
ഇവിടെ ഒരുപാട് മസാലകൾ ഉണ്ട്.There are many spices here.
ഞാൻ ഷെൽഫുകൾ നോക്കുന്നു.I look at the shelves.

"എനിക്ക് ഈ ബ്രാൻഡ് ഇഷ്ടമാണ്," അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു."I like this brand," he says.
"ഇത് വളരെ നല്ല കുരുമുളക് ആണ്.""This is very good black pepper."
"നന്ദി," ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് പറയുന്നു."Thank you," I say to him.
ഞാൻ ആ പാക്കറ്റ് എടുക്കുന്നു.I take that packet.

supermarket checkout
Storyboard: Maya takes her shopping cart to the checkout counter and pays for her groceries. She carefully packs the heavy rice, lentils, tea, and spices into her two reusable cloth bags before exiting the large store.
ഞാൻ ബില്ലിംഗ് കൗണ്ടറിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go to the billing counter.
എൻ്റെ ഷോപ്പിംഗ് കാർട്ടിൽ ധാരാളം സാധനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്.There are many things in my shopping cart.
കാർട്ടിൽ അരി, പരിപ്പ്, പാൽ, ചായപ്പൊടി, സുഗന്ധവ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ ഉണ്ട്.There is rice, lentils, milk, tea powder, and spices in the cart.
ഞാൻ അവിടെ ഒരു കാഷ്യറെ കാണുന്നു.I see a cashier there.
അദ്ദേഹം എൻ്റെ സാധനങ്ങൾ ഓരോന്നായി എടുക്കുന്നു.He takes my items one by one.
അദ്ദേഹം എല്ലാം സ്കാൻ ചെയ്യുന്നു.He scans everything.
"ആകെ എണ്ണൂറ്റി അൻപത് രൂപയാണ്," അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു."The total is eight hundred and fifty rupees," he says.
ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പണം കൊടുക്കുന്നു.I give him the money.
അദ്ദേഹം എനിക്ക് ബിൽ തരുന്നു.He gives me the bill.
"നിങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ബാഗ് വേണമോ?" അദ്ദേഹം ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Do you want a plastic bag?" he asks.
"എനിക്ക് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് ബാഗ് വേണ്ട," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."I do not want a plastic bag," I say.
"എൻ്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഒരു തുണിസഞ്ചി ഉണ്ട്.""I have a cloth bag."
എനിക്ക് തുണിസഞ്ചികൾ വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമാണ്.I like cloth bags very much.
ഞാൻ ആദ്യം ഭാരമുള്ള അരിയും പരിപ്പും സഞ്ചിയിൽ വെക്കുന്നു.I put the heavy rice and lentils in the bag first.
പിന്നെ ഞാൻ പാലും ചായപ്പൊടിയും സുഗന്ധവ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങളും വെക്കുന്നു.Then I put the milk, tea powder and spices.

Storyboard: On her way home in the pleasant morning weather, Maya stops at a small vegetable stand near her building. She points to the familiar vegetables she wants, selecting fresh tomatoes, carrots, and onions.
ഞാൻ ഓട്ടോയിൽ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് പോവുകയാണ്.I am going home in an auto.
രാവിലത്തെ കാലാവസ്ഥ വളരെ നല്ലതാണ്.The morning weather is very pleasant.
ഓട്ടോ എൻ്റെ ഫ്ലാറ്റിനടുത്ത് നിർത്തുന്നു.The auto stops near my flat.
ഫ്ലാറ്റിനടുത്ത് ഒരു ചെറിയ പച്ചക്കറിക്കടയുണ്ട്.There is a small vegetable shop near the flat.
ഞാൻ ആ കടയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go into that shop.

അദ്ദേഹം എല്ലാം കൊട്ടയിൽ വെക്കുന്നു.He puts everything in the basket.
ഇവ വളരെ നല്ല പച്ചക്കറികളാണ്.These are very good vegetables.
എനിക്ക് സന്തോഷമുണ്ട്.I am happy.

Storyboard: Among the familiar items, Maya spots a very long, pale green vegetable with white stripes. She asks the friendly shopkeeper what it is, deciding she wants to buy it and try something new.
ഞാൻ ചെറിയ പച്ചക്കറി കടയിൽ ആണ്.I am in the small vegetable shop.
അവിടെ പല പച്ചക്കറികളും ഉണ്ട്.There are many vegetables there.
ഞാൻ പെട്ടെന്ന് ഒരു പുതിയ പച്ചക്കറി കാണുന്നു.I suddenly see a new vegetable.
അത് വളരെ നീളമുള്ളതാണ്.It is very long.

"ഇത് പടവലങ്ങ ആണ്," അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു."This is padavalanga," he says.
"പടവലങ്ങ," ഞാൻ പതിയെ പറയുന്നു."Padavalanga," I say softly.
എനിക്ക് പുതിയ പച്ചക്കറികൾ ഇഷ്ടമാണ്.I like new vegetables.
"എനിക്ക് ഇത് വേണം," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."I want this," I say.
ഞാൻ ഒരു പടവലങ്ങ എടുക്കുന്നു.I take a snake gourd.
ഞാൻ അത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കൊടുക്കുന്നു.I give it to him.

Storyboard: The shopkeeper weighs all the fresh vegetables on a small scale. Maya hands him two hundred rupees for the produce and carefully packs everything into her remaining bags.
ഞാൻ ആ ചെറിയ പച്ചക്കറിക്കടയിൽ ആണ്.I am in that small vegetable shop.
ഞാൻ പച്ചക്കറികൾ കച്ചവടക്കാരന് കൊടുക്കുന്നു.I give the vegetables to the shopkeeper.

അനിത എൻ്റെ സഞ്ചികളിലെ പച്ചക്കറികൾ കാണുന്നു.Anitha sees the vegetables in my bags.
"മായയ്ക്ക് പാചകം ഇഷ്ടമാണോ?" അവർ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."Does Maya like cooking?" she asks.
"അതെ, എനിക്ക് പാചകം ഇഷ്ടമാണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Yes, I like cooking," I say.
"രാത്രി ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് ഇന്ന് എന്ത് വേണം?" അനിത ചോദിക്കുന്നു."What do you plan for dinner today?" Anitha asks.
"എനിക്ക് ഇന്ന് ഒരു വെജിറ്റബിൾ കറി വേണം," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."I plan for a vegetable curry today," I say.
"എൻ്റെ കൈയിൽ പുതിയ പച്ചക്കറികൾ ഉണ്ട്.""I have fresh vegetables with me."
"അത് വളരെ നല്ലതാണ്," അവർ പറയുന്നു."That is very good," she says.
