Week 10: Maya shops for summer clothes

saturday morning heat
Storyboard: It is a hot Saturday morning. Maya meets Anitha outside their apartment building. Maya explains that her thick clothes are too warm for the arriving March heat. Anitha recommends a large textile shop in the city for thin, light cotton clothes.
ഇന്ന് ശനിയാഴ്ച രാവിലെ ആണ്.Today is Saturday morning.
മാർച്ച് മാസം നല്ല ചൂടാണ്.The month of March is very hot.
ഞാൻ ഫ്ലാറ്റിന് പുറത്ത് നിൽക്കുന്നു.I am standing outside the apartment.
അനിത അവിടെ വരുന്നു.Anitha comes there.
"സുപ്രഭാതം, മായ," അനിത പറയുന്നു."Good morning, Maya," Anitha says.
"സുപ്രഭാതം, അനിത," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Good morning, Anitha," I say.
"ഇന്ന് നല്ല ചൂടാണ്," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."Today is very hot," I say.
ഞാൻ കട്ടിയുള്ള വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ആണ് ധരിക്കുന്നത്.I am wearing thick clothes.
"എന്റെ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ നല്ല കട്ടിയാണ്," ഞാൻ അനിതയോട് പറയുന്നു."My clothes are very thick," I tell Anitha.
"ഈ ചൂടിൽ എനിക്ക് കോട്ടൺ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ വേണം.""I need cotton clothes in this heat."
"നേർത്ത കോട്ടൺ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ഇടുക," അനിത പറയുന്നു."Wear thin cotton clothes," Anitha says.
"നഗരത്തിൽ ഒരു വലിയ തുണിക്കട ഉണ്ട്.""There is a big textile shop in the city."
"അതൊരു നല്ല കടയാണ്," അവർ പറയുന്നു."That is a good shop," she says.
"അവിടെ നല്ല കോട്ടൺ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ കിട്ടും.""Good cotton clothes are available there."
"അത് കൊള്ളാം," ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു."That's great," I say.
"ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് ആ വലിയ കടയിൽ പോകുന്നു.""I am going to that big shop today."
the blue kurta
Storyboard: Maya travels by bus to the shop and browses the women's section. She picks up a beautiful blue cotton kurta and asks a shop assistant the price — six hundred rupees. In the fitting room the medium size fits well, and she decides to buy it.
ഞാൻ ബസ്സിൽ നഗരത്തിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go to the city by bus.
ഞാൻ ആ വലിയ കടയിൽ എത്തുന്നു.I reach that large shop.
ഞാൻ സ്ത്രീകളുടെ സെക്ഷനിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go to the women's section.
അവിടെ ഒരുപാട് വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്.There are many clothes there.
ഞാൻ കോട്ടൺ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ നോക്കുന്നു.I look at cotton clothes.
ഞാൻ നല്ല ഒരു നീല കുർത്ത കാണുന്നു.I see a beautiful blue kurta.
ഈ നീല കുർത്ത വളരെ നല്ലതാണ്.This blue kurta is very good.
ഞാൻ കടയിലെ ഒരാളോട് വില ചോദിക്കുന്നു.I ask a person in the shop the price.
"ഈ കുർത്തയ്ക്ക് എന്താണ് വില?" ഞാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."What is the price of this kurta?" I ask.
"അറുനൂറ് രൂപ," അയാൾ പറയുന്നു."Six hundred rupees," he says.
അറുനൂറ് രൂപ വലിയ വിലയല്ല.Six hundred rupees is not a big price.
ഞാൻ മീഡിയം സൈസ് കുർത്ത എടുക്കുന്നു.I take the medium size kurta.
ഞാൻ ഫിറ്റിംഗ് റൂമിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go to the fitting room.
ഞാൻ ആ നീല കുർത്ത ഇടുന്നു.I put on that blue kurta.
മീഡിയം സൈസ് എനിക്ക് കൃത്യമാണ്.The medium size is exact for me.
എനിക്ക് ഈ കുർത്ത വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമാണ്.I like this kurta very much.
ഞാൻ ഇത് വാങ്ങാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു.I decide to buy this.
the bright yellow top
Storyboard: On a rack right beside the fitting rooms, a bright yellow top catches her eye, and she tries it as well. It fits her well, but the price is much too high, so she leaves it behind.
ഞാൻ ഡ്രെസ്സിങ് റൂമിന് പുറത്ത് നിൽക്കുന്നു.I stand outside the dressing room.
അവിടെ ഒരു ചെറിയ റാക്ക് ഉണ്ട്.There is a small rack there.
അതിൽ നല്ല ഭംഗിയുള്ള ഒരു ടോപ്പ് ഉണ്ട്.There is a very beautiful top on it.
അതൊരു തിളക്കമുള്ള മഞ്ഞ ടോപ്പ് ആണ്.It is a bright yellow top.
എനിക്ക് ആ മഞ്ഞ ടോപ്പ് ഇഷ്ടമാകുന്നു.I like that yellow top.
ഞാൻ അത് എടുക്കുന്നു.I take it.
ഞാൻ അതും ഇട്ടു നോക്കുന്നു.I try that on too.
എനിക്ക് ആ ടോപ്പ് നന്നായി ചേരുന്നുണ്ട്.That top fits me well.
അത് ഇടാൻ നല്ല സുഖമുണ്ട്.It is very comfortable to wear.
ഞാൻ അതിന്റെ വില നോക്കുന്നു.I look at its price.
അവിടെ വില കാണുന്നില്ല.I do not see the price there.
ഞാൻ അടുത്തുള്ള ഒരു ജീവനക്കാരിയോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു.I ask a staff member nearby.
"ഈ ടോപ്പിന് എത്ര രൂപയാണ്?" ഞാൻ അവരോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു."How many rupees for this top?" I ask her.
"രണ്ടായിരം രൂപയാണ്, മേഡം," അവർ മറുപടി പറയുന്നു."Two thousand rupees, madam," she replies.
രണ്ടായിരം രൂപ!Two thousand rupees!
അതൊരു വലിയ വിലയാണ്.That is a big price.
എനിക്ക് ഈ ടോപ്പ് വേണ്ട.I do not want this top.
ഞാൻ അത് വാങ്ങുന്നില്ല.I am not buying it.
ഞാൻ ആ മഞ്ഞ ടോപ്പ് തിരികെ റാക്കിൽ വെക്കുന്നു.I put that yellow top back on the rack.
the red gym shirt
Storyboard: In the activewear section, Maya finds a large, breathable red t-shirt for her gym evenings — three hundred rupees. She tries it on, it feels light and comfortable, and she decides to buy it.
ഞാൻ അടുത്തതായി വ്യായാമത്തിനുള്ള വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ നോക്കുന്നു.I next look at clothes for exercise.

"ഇതിന് എന്താണ് വില?" ഞാൻ അവരോട് ചോദിക്കുന്നു."What is the price of this?" I ask her.
"ഇതിന് മുന്നൂറ് രൂപയാണ്," അവർ പറയുന്നു."This is three hundred rupees," she says.
മുന്നൂറ് രൂപ വലിയ വിലയല്ല.Three hundred rupees is not a big price.
ഞാൻ വീണ്ടും ഡ്രസ്സിംഗ് റൂമിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.I go to the dressing room again.
ഞാൻ ആ ചുവന്ന ടി-ഷർട്ട് ധരിക്കുന്നു.I put on that red t-shirt.
ഈ വലിയ ടി-ഷർട്ട് വളരെ നല്ലതാണ്.This large t-shirt is very good.
ഇത് കനം കുറഞ്ഞ വസ്ത്രമാണ്.It is a light garment.
ഇത് ഇടാൻ നല്ല സുഖമാണ്.It is very comfortable to wear.

the white scarf
Storyboard: While walking toward the front of the shop, Maya picks up a large white cotton scarf. A nearby clerk tells her it costs one hundred rupees. She decides to buy it to block the strong sun during her daily commute.
ഞാൻ കടയുടെ മുൻവശത്തേക്ക് നടക്കുന്നു.I walk to the front of the shop.
അവിടെ ഒരുപാട് സാധനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്.There are many things there.

അത് വളരെ മനോഹരമായ ഒരു സ്കാർഫ് ആണ്.It is a very beautiful scarf.
ആ കോട്ടൺ സ്കാർഫ് വളരെ മൃദു ആണ്.That cotton scarf is very soft.
ഞാൻ ആ സ്കാർഫ് കയ്യിൽ എടുക്കുന്നു.I take that scarf in my hand.
ഒരു ജീവനക്കാരൻ അവിടെ നിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.A clerk is standing there.
ഞാൻ അയാളെ നോക്കുന്നു.I look at him.
"ഈ സ്കാർഫിന്റെ വില എന്താണ്?" ഞാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു."What is the price of this scarf?" I ask.
"ഇതിന് നൂറ് രൂപ ആണ്, മാഡം," അയാൾ പറയുന്നു."It is one hundred rupees, madam," he says.
നൂറ് രൂപ ഒരു ചെറിയ വില ആണ്.One hundred rupees is a small price.
കൊച്ചിയിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ നല്ല വെയിൽ ആണ്.There is strong sun in Kochi now.
ഞാൻ ബസ്സിലാണ് ഓഫീസിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നത്.I go to the office by bus.
ഓഫീസിൽ പോകുമ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് ഈ സ്കാർഫ് ധരിക്കാം.I can wear this scarf when going to the office.
ഈ വലിയ സ്കാർഫ് വെയിൽ തടയാൻ നല്ലതാണ്.This large scarf is good for blocking the sun.
"ഞാൻ ഇത് വാങ്ങുന്നു," ഞാൻ അയാളോട് പറയുന്നു."I am buying this," I tell him.
അയാൾ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ തലയാട്ടുന്നു.He nods happily.
paying the bill
Storyboard: Maya takes the blue kurta, the red t-shirt, and the white scarf to the billing counter. The cashier names the total — one thousand rupees exactly. Maya pays with cash and takes her shopping bags.
ഞാൻ ബില്ലിംഗ് കൗണ്ടറിലേക്ക് നടക്കുന്നു.I walk to the billing counter.
എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ മൂന്ന് പുതിയ തുണികൾ ഉണ്ട്.I have three new garments in my hand.
ഞാൻ ഒരു നീല കുർത്തയും ചുവന്ന ടീ ഷർട്ടും വെള്ള സ്കാർഫും വാങ്ങുന്നു.I am buying a blue kurta, a red t-shirt, and a white scarf.
ഞാൻ ഈ തുണികൾ കൗണ്ടറിൽ വെക്കുന്നു.I put these clothes on the counter.

Storyboard: Maya steps out of the shop into the extremely hot afternoon sun. She immediately takes the new white scarf out of her bag and wears it over her head and shoulders, feeling comfortable as she walks to the bus stop.
ഞാൻ കടയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്നു.I step outside from the shop.
ഇപ്പോൾ ഉച്ചയാണ്.It is afternoon now.
പുറത്ത് വലിയ ചൂടാണ്.It is very hot outside.
നല്ല വെയിലാണ്.The sun is very strong.
