a hot sunday morning
Storyboard: On a very hot Sunday morning, Maya decides to escape the city heat. She takes an auto-rickshaw to the Ernakulam railway station, buys a ticket for a town down the coast, and waits on the crowded platform.
ഇന്ന് ഞായറാഴ്ചയാണ്.Today is Sunday.
വളരെ ചൂടുള്ള ഒരു പ്രഭാതം ആയിരുന്നു അത്.It was a very hot morning.
നഗരത്തിലെ ചൂട് എനിക്ക് സഹിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.I could not bear the heat in the city.

പിന്നെ ഞാൻ പുറത്തിറങ്ങി ഒരു ഓട്ടോറിക്ഷ വിളിച്ചു.Then I went outside and called an auto-rickshaw.
ഓട്ടോ ഡ്രൈവർ വളരെ നല്ലൊരു ആളായിരുന്നു.The auto driver was a very nice man.
"എങ്ങോട്ടാണ് പോകേണ്ടത്?" അയാൾ ചോദിച്ചു."Where to?" he asked.
"എറണാകുളം റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിലേക്ക്," ഞാൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു."To the Ernakulam railway station," I replied.
ഞങ്ങൾ ഒൻപത് മണിക്ക് സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ എത്തി.We reached the station at nine o'clock.
ഞാൻ ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ പോയി.I went to the ticket counter.
ഞാൻ ആലപ്പുഴയ്ക്ക് ഒരു ടിക്കറ്റ് വാങ്ങി.I bought a ticket to Alappuzha.
ടിക്കറ്റിന് അൻപത് രൂപ ആയിരുന്നു.The ticket price was fifty rupees.
അതിനുശേഷം ഞാൻ പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോമിലേക്ക് നടന്നു.After that, I walked to the platform.
പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോം മുഴുവൻ ആളുകളെക്കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.The platform was full of people.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ ട്രെയിൻ വരാൻ അവിടെ കാത്തുനിന്നു.I waited there for my train to arrive.
നഗരത്തിന് പുറത്തേക്കുള്ള എന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ യാത്രയായിരുന്നു അത്.It was my first trip outside the city.

Storyboard: When the train arrives, Maya finds a window seat. She watches a family settle in across from her, smiling as a young boy insists on carrying his own heavy bag rather than letting his mother carry it.

കുറച്ചുകഴിഞ്ഞ്, ഒരു കുടുംബം എന്റെ എതിർവശത്ത് വന്നിരുന്നു.After a while, a family came and sat opposite me.
ഒരു അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും ഒരു ചെറിയ കുട്ടിയും ആയിരുന്നു അത്.It was a father, a mother, and a small boy.
ആ കുട്ടിയുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഒരു വലിയ ബാഗ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.That boy had a big bag in his hand.
ബാഗിന് നല്ല ഭാരമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.The bag was very heavy.
അവന്റെ അമ്മ അവനെ സഹായിക്കാൻ നോക്കി.His mother tried to help him.
അവർ അവന്റെ ബാഗ് വാങ്ങാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.She tried to take his bag.
പക്ഷേ അവൻ ആ ബാഗ് അവർക്ക് കൊടുത്തില്ല.But he did not give that bag to her.
"ഇത് എന്റെ സ്വന്തം ബാഗാണ്," അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു."This is my own bag," he said.
അവൻ സ്വന്തം ബാഗ് ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് എടുത്തു.He carried his own bag alone.
അവൻ വളരെ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് അത് സീറ്റിൽ വെച്ചു.He put it on the seat with great difficulty.
അവന്റെ അമ്മ അത് കണ്ട് ചിരിച്ചു.His mother smiled seeing that.
ഞാനും ആ കുട്ടിയെ നോക്കി ചിരിച്ചു.I also looked at that boy and smiled.
അല്പസമയത്തിനുശേഷം ട്രെയിൻ മുന്നോട്ട് നീങ്ങി.After a little while, the train moved forward.

Storyboard: Maya recounts the beautiful train journey south. She describes how the train left the noisy city behind, crossed long bridges, and how bright glimpses of water flashed between the dense green trees along the tracks.
ട്രെയിൻ പതുക്കെ നഗരം വിട്ടു.The train slowly left the city.
ആദ്യം എവിടെയും വലിയ കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ മാത്രമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ.At first, there were only tall buildings everywhere.
പെട്ടെന്ന് തന്നെ നഗരത്തിലെ വലിയ ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കുറഞ്ഞു.Soon, the loud noises of the city faded.
പിന്നെ യാത്ര വളരെ ശാന്തമായിരുന്നു.Then, the journey was very quiet.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ സ്വന്തം സീറ്റിലിരുന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് നോക്കി.I sat in my own seat and looked outside.
കുറച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ പുറത്തെ കാഴ്ചകൾ മാറി.After some time, the scenery outside changed.
ട്രെയിൻ വളരെ നീളമുള്ള ഒരു പാലം കടന്നു.The train crossed a very long bridge.
പാലത്തിന് താഴെ ഞാൻ ഒരു വലിയ പുഴ കണ്ടു.I saw a wide river under the bridge.
രാവിലത്തെ വെയിലിൽ ആ വെള്ളം നന്നായി തിളങ്ങി.The water shone brightly in the morning sun.
ട്രാക്കിന്റെ രണ്ടു വശത്തും പച്ച മരങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.There were green trees on both sides of the track.
അവ വളരെ തിങ്ങിയ മരങ്ങൾ ആയിരുന്നു.They were very dense trees.
ആ മരങ്ങൾക്കിടയിലൂടെ വെള്ളം മിന്നിത്തിളങ്ങുന്നത് ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.I saw the water flashing brightly through those trees.
അത് വളരെ മനോഹരമായ ഒരു കാഴ്ചയായിരുന്നു.It was a very beautiful sight.
ഞാൻ ബാഗിൽ നിന്ന് എന്റെ ക്യാമറ എടുത്തു.I took my camera from the bag.
ഞാൻ സ്വന്തം ക്യാമറയിൽ ആ ഭംഗി പകർത്തി.I captured that beauty with my own camera.
എനിക്ക് വളരെ സന്തോഷം തോന്നി.I felt very happy.
തെക്കോട്ടുള്ള ഈ ട്രെയിൻ യാത്ര നല്ലൊരു അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു.This train journey south was a good experience.
arriving at the dock
Storyboard: Getting off at the coastal town, Maya walks from the station to the ferry dock. The midday heat is intense, so she stops at a small roadside stall to buy a cold bottle of water and asks the vendor for directions to the boat.
ഞാൻ ആ ചെറിയ ടൗണിലെ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ ഇറങ്ങി.I got down at the railway station in that small town.
ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് നല്ല ചൂട് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.At midday, it was very hot.
ഞാൻ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ബോട്ട് ജെട്ടി അന്വേഷിച്ച് നടന്നു.I walked from the station looking for the boat jetty.
എനിക്ക് വല്ലാതെ ദാഹിച്ചു.I was very thirsty.
റോഡിന് അരികിൽ ഞാൻ ഒരു ചെറിയ കട കണ്ടു.I saw a small shop by the side of the road.
ഒരു കച്ചവടക്കാരൻ കടയിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.A vendor was sitting in the shop.
ഞാൻ ആ കടയുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് പോയി.I went near that shop.
"എനിക്ക് ഒരു കുപ്പി തണുത്ത വെള്ളം വേണം," ഞാൻ അയാളോട് പറഞ്ഞു."I want a bottle of cold water," I told him.
അയാൾ ഒരു കുപ്പി തണുത്ത വെള്ളം എടുത്തു തന്നു.He took a bottle of cold water and gave it to me.
അതിന് ഇരുപത് രൂപ ആയിരുന്നു.It cost twenty rupees.
ഞാൻ അയാൾക്ക് പണം കൊടുത്തു.I gave him the money.
എന്നിട്ട് ഞാൻ അയാളോട് വഴി ചോദിച്ചു.Then I asked him for directions.
"ബോട്ട് ജെട്ടി എവിടെയാണ്?""Where is the boat jetty?"
അയാൾ വലതുവശത്തേക്ക് കൈ ചൂണ്ടി.He pointed his hand to the right side.
"നേരെ പോകൂ, അവിടെയാണ് ബോട്ട്," അയാൾ പറഞ്ഞു."Go straight, the boat is there," he said.
ഞാൻ അയാളോട് നന്ദി പറഞ്ഞു.I thanked him.
ഞാൻ ആ കുപ്പിയിൽ നിന്ന് കുറച്ചു തണുത്ത വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു.I drank some cold water from that bottle.
പിന്നെ ഞാൻ ജെട്ടിയിലേക്ക് നടന്നു.Then I walked to the jetty.
the slow ferry
Storyboard: Maya boards a slow public ferry. As the boat pulls away from the dock, she describes how it glided smoothly between thick palm trees, the gentle breeze off the water finally breaking the heavy summer heat.
ഞാൻ സ്വന്തം ടിക്കറ്റ് വാങ്ങി ബോട്ടിൽ കയറി.I bought my own ticket and got on the boat.
അത് ഒരു പഴയ ബോട്ടായിരുന്നു.It was an old boat.

ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് മുൻപ്, വേനൽക്കാലത്തെ ചൂട് ഭയങ്കരമായിരുന്നു.Before noon, the summer heat was terrible.

ഈ ബോട്ട് യാത്ര വളരെ ശാന്തമായിരുന്നു.This boat trip was very peaceful.

Storyboard: While the boat moves slowly, Maya people-watches. She sees an older man borrow his friend's newspaper to read. Maya then takes out her own camera to photograph the small houses sitting right on the water's edge.
ബോട്ട് വെള്ളത്തിലൂടെ വളരെ പതുക്കെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചു.The boat moved very slowly through the water.
ഞാൻ മിണ്ടാതെ ഇരുന്ന് മറ്റ് യാത്രക്കാരെ നോക്കി.I sat quietly and watched the other passengers.
മിക്ക ആളുകളും വെള്ളത്തിലേക്ക് നോക്കി ഇരുന്നു.Most people sat watching the water.
പ്രായമുള്ള രണ്ട് പേർ എന്റെ എതിരെ ഇരുന്നു.Two older men sat opposite me.
അവർ കുറച്ചു നേരം പതുക്കെ സംസാരിച്ചു.They talked softly for some time.
പിന്നെ, അതിൽ ഒരാൾക്ക് പത്രം വായിക്കണം എന്ന് തോന്നി.Then, one of them wanted to read a newspaper.

വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ തീരത്ത് തന്നെ ചെറിയ വീടുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.There were small houses right on the edge of the water.
എനിക്ക് അതിന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ എടുക്കണമായിരുന്നു.I wanted to take pictures of them.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ മൊബൈൽ ഫോൺ ഉപയോഗിച്ചില്ല.I did not use my mobile phone.
പകരം, ഞാൻ എന്റെ സ്വന്തം ക്യാമറ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു.Instead, I used my own camera.

lunch on an island
Storyboard: The ferry stops at a small island village in the afternoon. Maya gets off, finds a quiet local restaurant by the water, and eats a simple, delicious lunch of rice and fish while watching the small canoes paddle past.
ഉച്ചകഴിഞ്ഞ് ബോട്ട് ഒരു ചെറിയ ദ്വീപിൽ നിർത്തി.In the afternoon, the boat stopped at a small island.
ഞാൻ അവിടെ ഇറങ്ങി.I got off there.
വെള്ളത്തിന് അടുത്തായി ഒരു ചെറിയ ഹോട്ടൽ ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.I saw a small restaurant near the water.
അവിടെ അധികം ആളുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.There were not many people there.

വെള്ളത്തിലൂടെ ചെറിയ വഞ്ചികൾ പോകുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.Small boats were going through the water.
ഒരാൾ സ്വന്തം വഞ്ചി തുഴയുന്നത് ഞാൻ കണ്ടു.I saw a person rowing his own boat.
വേറൊരാൾ അവന്റെ സുഹൃത്തിന്റെ വഞ്ചിയിൽ ഇരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.Another person was sitting in his friend's boat.
ഞാൻ കുറെ നേരം ആ കാഴ്ചകൾ നോക്കിയിരുന്നു.I sat looking at those sights for a long time.
the evening return
Storyboard: In the late afternoon, Maya catches the returning ferry, and by evening she is on the train back to Kochi. The sun begins to set over the water, and she rests her head against the window, feeling physically tired but completely happy.
ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം ഞാൻ മടക്കയാത്ര തുടങ്ങി.In the late afternoon, I started the return journey.

ബോട്ടിൽ ഒരുപാട് ആളുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.There were a lot of people on the boat.
ചിലർ അവരുടെ സ്വന്തം ഫോണിൽ നോക്കി ഇരുന്നു.Some sat looking at their own phones.
വൈകുന്നേരത്തെ കാറ്റ് നല്ല തണുപ്പ് ആയിരുന്നു.The evening breeze was very cool.

Storyboard: Back in her comfortable apartment that night, Maya sits at her table with her travel diary. She finishes writing down the times and memories of the day, happy that she successfully navigated her first solo trip out of the city.
ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ എന്റെ അപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തി.Now I have returned to my apartment.
രാത്രിയായി.It has become night.

ഞാൻ ഒരുപാട് മനോഹരമായ സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ കണ്ടു.I saw many beautiful places.
ഞാൻ സ്വന്തം ക്യാമറയിൽ എടുത്ത ഫോട്ടോകളും നോക്കുന്നു.I also look at the photos taken on my own camera.
ഇന്ന് എന്റെ അനിയത്തി സോഫിയ അവളുടെ ഫോട്ടോകൾ എനിക്ക് അയച്ചുതന്നു.Today my younger sister Sofia sent me her photos.
അവൾ അവളുടെ സുഹൃത്തുക്കൾക്കൊപ്പം ആയിരുന്നു.She was with her friends.
