Week 21: Maya shops for the monsoon and exchanges a shirt

Storyboard: After finishing her Saturday morning volunteer shift at the community café, Maya steps out into the steady monsoon drizzle. Three weeks of daily rain have shown her that an umbrella is not enough on the bicycle, so she decides to stop at a large local clothing store in town for a proper raincoat — and a fresh shirt.
ഇന്ന് ശനിയാഴ്ചയാണ്.	Today is Saturday.
കഫേയിലെ എന്റെ രാവിലത്തെ ജോലി കഴിഞ്ഞു.	My morning work at the cafe is finished.
ഞാൻ പുറത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്നു.	I step outside.
പുറത്ത് നല്ല മഴ പെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്.	It is raining heavily outside.
കൊച്ചിയിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ മൺസൂൺ കാലമാണ്.	It is the monsoon season in Kochi now.
മൂന്ന് ആഴ്ചയായി ഇവിടെ മഴയാണ്.	It has been raining here for three weeks.
എന്റെ ബാഗിൽ ഒരു കുടയുണ്ട്.	I have an umbrella in my bag.
പക്ഷേ സൈക്കിൾ ഓടിക്കാൻ കുട മാത്രം പോരാ.	But an umbrella alone is not enough to ride the bicycle.

എനിക്ക് ആദ്യം ഒരു റെയിൻകോട്ട് ആണ് വേണ്ടത്.	First, I need a raincoat.
ഞാൻ സ്ത്രീകളുടെ തുണികളുടെ ഭാഗത്തൂടെ നടക്കുന്നു.	I walk past the women's clothing section.
അവിടെ റെയിൻകോട്ടുകൾ ഒന്നും കാണുന്നില്ല.	I don't see any raincoats there.

Storyboard: In the rainwear aisle, Maya examines two raincoats: a heavy dark blue one and a lightweight, bright yellow one. She decides the yellow one is much better than the blue one for visibility when riding her bicycle, and it looks large enough to cover her backpack.

Storyboard: Next, she browses the casual wear and picks out a nice green cotton shirt. Assuming her standard size will fit perfectly, she decides to skip the long line for the fitting rooms, pays for both items at the register, and carefully pockets the receipt.
മഴക്കോട്ട് എടുത്ത ശേഷം ഞാൻ ഷർട്ടുകൾ ഉള്ള ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	After picking up the raincoat, I go to the section with the shirts.
അവിടെ പലതരം ഷർട്ടുകൾ ഉണ്ട്.	There are many types of shirts there.
എനിക്ക് പച്ച നിറത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു കോട്ടൺ ഷർട്ട് ഇഷ്ടമാകുന്നു.	I like a green-colored cotton shirt.
അത് മനോഹരമായ ഒരു ഷർട്ടാണ്.	It is a beautiful shirt.

Storyboard: Back in her flat later that afternoon, Maya tries on the new green shirt in front of her bedroom mirror. She realizes immediately that the fit is wrong; the cut of this brand is much smaller than her usual shirts, making it uncomfortably tight across her shoulders. She decides to take it back tomorrow morning.
ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം ഞാൻ ഫ്ലാറ്റിൽ എത്തുന്നു.	I reach the flat in the afternoon.
ഞാൻ നേരെ എന്റെ കിടപ്പുമുറിയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	I go straight to my bedroom.

ഇത് എന്റെ സാധാരണ ഷർട്ടുകളെക്കാൾ ചെറുതാണ്.	It is smaller than my usual shirts.

Storyboard: The next morning — a quiet Sunday — Maya sets out for the clothing store with the folded shirt in its shopping bag, wearing her new yellow raincoat against the steady rain.
ഇന്ന് ഞായറാഴ്ച രാവിലെയാണ്.	Today is Sunday morning.
പുറത്ത് വലിയ മഴ പെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്.	It is raining heavily outside.
ഇന്നലത്തെക്കാൾ വലിയ മഴയാണ് ഇന്ന്.	Today the rain is heavier than yesterday.
ഞാൻ ഇന്നലെ വാങ്ങിയ പച്ച ഷർട്ട് ചെറുതാണ്.	The green shirt I bought yesterday is small.
എനിക്ക് ഇതിനെക്കാൾ വലിയ ഒരു ഷർട്ട് വേണം.	I need a shirt bigger than this.
അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ വീണ്ടും ആ തുണിക്കടയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	Therefore, I am going to that clothing store again.
മഴയത്ത് പുറത്ത് പോകാൻ ഞാൻ പുതിയ റെയിൻകോട്ട് ഇടുന്നു.	To go outside in the rain, I put on the new raincoat.
ഈ മഞ്ഞ റെയിൻകോട്ട് എനിക്ക് വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമായി.	I liked this yellow raincoat very much.

അതുകൊണ്ട് നല്ല ശാന്തമായ യാത്രയാണ്.	Therefore, it is a nice peaceful journey.
കുറച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഞാൻ കടയുടെ മുന്നിൽ എത്തുന്നു.	After a while, I arrive in front of the shop.
ഞാൻ സൈക്കിൾ അവിടെ പാർക്ക് ചെയ്യുന്നു.	I park the bicycle there.
എന്നിട്ട് ഷോപ്പിംഗ് ബാഗുമായി കടയ്ക്ക് ഉള്ളിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	Then I go inside the shop with the shopping bag.
asking for a bigger size
Storyboard: Maya approaches the store's customer service counter, shows the receipt to the clerk, and explains the issue. She politely asks if they have the exact same green shirt in stock, but in a size bigger than the one she brought back.
ഞാൻ കടയിലെ കസ്റ്റമർ സർവീസ് കൗണ്ടറിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	I go to the customer service counter in the store.
അവിടെ ഒരു ക്ലാർക്ക് ഉണ്ട്.	There is a clerk there.
ഞാൻ പച്ച ഷർട്ടും രസീതും അയാൾക്ക് കൊടുക്കുന്നു.	I give the green shirt and the receipt to him.
അയാൾ രസീത് നോക്കുന്നു.	He looks at the receipt.
"എന്താണ് പ്രശ്നം?" അയാൾ ചോദിക്കുന്നു.	"What is the problem?" he asks.
ഞാൻ കാര്യം അയാളോട് വിശദീകരിക്കുന്നു.	I explain the matter to him.
"ഞാൻ ഇന്നലെ ഈ ഷർട്ട് വാങ്ങി."	"I bought this shirt yesterday."
"പക്ഷേ ഈ ഷർട്ട് വളരെ ചെറുതാണ്."	"But this shirt is very small."
"എൻ്റെ അളവ് ഇതിനെക്കാൾ വലുതാണ്."	"My size is bigger than this."
"ഇത് മാറ്റിത്തരാമോ?" ഞാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു.	"Can I exchange this?" I ask.
അയാൾ ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് തലയാട്ടുന്നു.	He nods his head with a smile.
"തീർച്ചയായും, ഇത് മാറ്റിത്തരാം," അയാൾ പറയുന്നു.	"Certainly, we can exchange this," he says.
"ഇതേ ഷർട്ടിൻ്റെ ഇതിനെക്കാൾ വലിയ അളവ് ഉണ്ടോ?" ഞാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നു.	"Do you have a size bigger than this for this same shirt?" I ask.
"ഞാൻ ഒന്ന് നോക്കട്ടെ," അയാൾ പറയുന്നു.	"Let me just check," he says.
അയാൾ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിൽ തിരയുന്നു.	He searches in the computer.
"അതെ, ഇതിനെക്കാൾ വലിയ അളവ് ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്," അയാൾ പറയുന്നു.	"Yes, there is a size bigger than this here," he says.
ആ ഷർട്ട് എടുക്കാൻ അയാൾ അകത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	He goes inside to get that shirt.
ഞാൻ കൗണ്ടറിന് അടുത്ത് കാത്തുനിൽക്കുന്നു.	I wait near the counter.

Storyboard: The clerk kindly brings her the larger size, and this time Maya goes straight to the fitting rooms to be entirely sure. She tries it on and checks the mirror; this one is noticeably bigger than the first shirt and fits her comfortably.
അയാൾ വലിയ ഷർട്ട് എനിക്ക് തരുന്നു.	The clerk gives me the large shirt.
ഞാൻ നന്ദി പറയുന്നു.	I say thanks.
ഇത്തവണ ഞാൻ നേരെ ഫിറ്റിംഗ് റൂമിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.	This time I go straight to the fitting room.
ഇന്ന് അവിടെ വരി ഇല്ല.	Today there is no line there.
ഞാൻ ഒരു മുറിയിൽ കയറി വാതിൽ അടയ്ക്കുന്നു.	I enter a room and close the door.
ഞാൻ എന്റെ മഞ്ഞ റെയിൻകോട്ട് അഴിച്ചു വെക്കുന്നു.	I take off my yellow raincoat.
എന്നിട്ട് പുതിയ പച്ച ഷർട്ട് ഇട്ടുനോക്കുന്നു.	And then I try on the new green shirt.
ഞാൻ കണ്ണാടിയുടെ മുന്നിൽ നിൽക്കുന്നു.	I stand in front of the mirror.
ഈ ഷർട്ട് ആദ്യത്തെ ഷർട്ടിനെക്കാൾ വലുതാണ്.	This shirt is bigger than the first shirt.
ഇത് എനിക്ക് നല്ല പാകമാണ്.	It is a good fit for me.
തോളിൽ ഒട്ടും ഇറുക്കമില്ല.	It is not tight on the shoulders at all.
പഴയ ഷർട്ടിനെക്കാൾ ഇത് ഇടാൻ നല്ല സുഖമുണ്ട്.	It is much more comfortable to wear than the old shirt.
എനിക്ക് ഈ അളവ് വളരെ ഇഷ്ടമായി.	I like this size very much.
ഞാൻ പുതിയ ഷർട്ട് ഊരി മാറുന്നു.	I take off the new shirt and change.
ഞാൻ ആ ഷർട്ടുമായി പുറത്തേക്ക് വരുന്നു.	I come outside with that shirt.

Storyboard: Maya completes the exchange at the counter without any hassle and thanks the helpful clerk. She walks back out into the steady midday rain, feeling relieved and fully prepared for the rest of the monsoon.

ആദ്യത്തെ ഷർട്ട് എനിക്ക് ചെറുതായിരുന്നു.	The first shirt was small for me.
ഈ പുതിയ ഷർട്ട് അതിനെക്കാൾ വലുതാണ്.	This new shirt is bigger than that.
അയാൾ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിൽ വിവരങ്ങൾ ചേർക്കുന്നു.	He adds the details in the computer.
ഈ ഷർട്ട് മാറ്റിയെടുക്കാൻ വളരെ എളുപ്പമാണ്.	It is very easy to exchange this shirt.
അയാൾ പുതിയ ഷർട്ട് ഒരു കവറിലാക്കി എനിക്ക് തരുന്നു.	He puts the new shirt in a bag and gives it to me.
"വളരെ നന്ദി," ഞാൻ അയാളോട് പറയുന്നു.	"Thank you very much," I say to him.
ഞാൻ കടയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്നു.	I step out of the store.
ഇപ്പോൾ ഉച്ചസമയമാണ്.	It is midday now.
പുറത്ത് ഇപ്പോഴും നല്ല മഴയുണ്ട്.	There is still heavy rain outside.
ഞാൻ എൻ്റെ പുതിയ മഞ്ഞ റെയിൻകോട്ട് ഇടുന്നു.	I put on my new yellow raincoat.
മഴയത്ത് സൈക്കിൾ ഓടിക്കാൻ കുടയെക്കാൾ നല്ലത് റെയിൻകോട്ടാണ്.	To ride a bicycle in the rain, a raincoat is better than an umbrella.
