Week 1: Maya arrives in Mumbai

Storyboard: Maya steps out of the airport into the mild January night, immediately noticing the sea in the air. Bags around her, she takes in the lights and the crowd, and asks an airport attendant where the prepaid taxi counter is; he points the way.
मी मुंबई विमानतळाबाहेर येते.	I step outside the Mumbai airport.
जानेवारी महिना आहे.	It is the month of January.
पण हवा थंड नाही.	But the air is not cold.
हवेत समुद्राचा वास आहे.	There is the smell of the sea in the air.
मी आजूबाजूला पाहते.	I look around.
इथे खूप गर्दी आहे.	There is a huge crowd here.
सगळीकडे लख्ख प्रकाश आहे.	There is bright light everywhere.
माझ्या बॅगा जड आहेत.	My bags are heavy.
मी थोडी थकले आहे.	I am a little tired.
पण मी खूप खूश आहे.	But I am very happy.
मला टॅक्सी हवी आहे.	I need a taxi.
तिथे एक कर्मचारी उभा आहे.	An attendant is standing there.
मी त्याच्याकडे जाते.	I go to him.
"एक्सक्यूझ मी, प्रीपेड टॅक्सी काउंटर कुठे आहे?" मी विचारते.	"Excuse me, where is the prepaid taxi counter?" I ask.
तो कर्मचारी म्हणतो, "मॅडम, काउंटर समोर आहे."	The attendant says, "Madam, the counter is straight ahead."
"ते लांब आहे का?" मी विचारते.	"Is it far?" I ask.
"नाही, ते उजवीकडे आहे," तो सांगतो.	"No, it is to the right," he tells me.
"धन्यवाद," मी म्हणते.	"Thank you," I say.
मी माझ्या बॅगा घेते.	I take my bags.
मी टॅक्सी काउंटरकडे जाते.	I walk towards the taxi counter.

Storyboard: Maya puts her bags into a classic kaali-peeli taxi and greets the driver respectfully. She shows him her new address written on her phone; he reads it, nods, and sets off. The driver asks if she is a tourist visiting the city, and she explains that she is a software engineer here for work.
मी एका काळ्या-पिवळ्या टॅक्सीजवळ उभी आहे.	I am standing near a black-and-yellow taxi.
माझ्याकडे दोन बॅगा आहेत.	I have two bags.
मी बॅगा टॅक्सीत ठेवते.	I put the bags in the taxi.
मी टॅक्सीत बसते.	I sit in the taxi.
मी ड्रायव्हरला आदराने 'दादा' म्हणते.	I respectfully call the driver 'dada'.
माझ्या फोनवर माझा नवीन पत्ता आहे.	My new address is on my phone.
मी त्यांना फोन दाखवते.	I show him the phone.
ते पत्ता वाचतात.	He reads the address.
ते मान हलवतात.	He nods.
आणि टॅक्सी सुरू होते.	And the taxi starts.
ड्रायव्हर दादा मला विचारतात.	Driver dada asks me.
"मॅडम, तुम्ही मुंबईत नवीन आहात का?"	"Madam, are you new to Mumbai?"
"तुम्ही टूरिस्ट आहात का?"	"Are you a tourist?"
"नाही दादा, मी टूरिस्ट नाही," मी म्हणते.	"No dada, I am not a tourist," I say.
"माझं नाव माया आहे."	"My name is Maya."
"माझं काम मुंबईत आहे."	"My work is in Mumbai."
"मी सॉफ्टवेअर इंजिनिअर आहे."	"I am a software engineer."
"मुंबईत स्वागत आहे, मॅडम," ते हसून म्हणतात.	"Welcome to Mumbai, Madam," he says with a smile.
मी खिडकीबाहेर बघते.	I look out the window.
हे शहर खूप मोठं आहे.	This city is very big.

Storyboard: The taxi stops at her building, and the elderly night watchman comes to the gate. He asks who she is; she explains she is the new resident and gives her name, and he helps her in with the heavy suitcase, waving her warmly toward the stairs.
टॅक्सी इमारतीसमोर थांबते.	The taxi stops in front of the building.
मी माझी मोठी बॅग घेते.	I take my big bag.
ती खूप जड आहे.	It is very heavy.
गेटवर एक वयस्कर वॉचमन आहेत.	There is an elderly watchman at the gate.
ते माझ्याकडे बघतात.	He looks at me.
"मॅडम, तुम्ही कोण आहात?" ते विचारतात.	"Madam, who are you?" he asks.
"तुम्ही इथे नवीन आहात का?"	"Are you new here?"
मी हसते.	I smile.
"हो, मी नवीन रहिवासी आहे," मी म्हणते.	"Yes, I am the new resident," I say.
"माझं नाव माया आहे."	"My name is Maya."
ते छान हसतात.	He smiles warmly.
"स्वागत आहे, माया मॅडम," ते म्हणतात.	"Welcome, Maya madam," he says.
ते माझ्या बॅगेजवळ येतात.	He comes near my bag.
"बॅग जड आहे का?" ते विचारतात.	"Is the bag heavy?" he asks.
"हो, ती खूप जड आहे," मी म्हणते.	"Yes, it is very heavy," I say.
ते माझी बॅग उचलतात.	He lifts my bag.
ते मला जिना दाखवतात.	He shows me the stairs.
"जिना तिथे आहे," ते म्हणतात.	"The stairs are there," he says.
मी त्यांच्यासोबत आत जाते.	I go inside with him.
temporary room
Storyboard: Maya looks around the quiet temporary room. She finds the switch for the ceiling fan, turns it on, and notes that there is a bed and a sturdy table. At the window, the enormous unfamiliar city stretches into the night, and for a moment she feels a sharp pang for Mexico.
मी आता माझ्या खोलीत आहे.	I am now in my room.
ही खोली नवीन आहे.	This room is new.
खोली खूप शांत आहे.	The room is very quiet.
मी आजूबाजूला पाहते.	I look around.
तिथे भिंतीवर एक स्विच आहे.	There is a switch on the wall there.
मी फॅनचा स्विच चालू करते.	I turn on the fan's switch.
वर छताचा पंखा फिरतो.	The ceiling fan spins above.
खोलीत एक पलंग आहे.	There is a bed in the room.
आणि एक मजबूत टेबल आहे.	And there is a sturdy table.
खोली लहान आहे.	The room is small.
पण ती छान आहे.	But it is nice.
मी खिडकीजवळ जाते.	I go near the window.
मी बाहेर पाहते.	I look outside.
बाहेर रात्र आहे.	It is night outside.
हे शहर खूप मोठे आहे.	This city is very big.
सगळं अगदी नवीन आहे.	Everything is completely new.
मला अचानक मेक्सिकोची आठवण येते.	I suddenly miss Mexico.

Storyboard: Maya opens her suitcase and settles in. She unpacks her clothes and places a framed family photograph — her parents, her sister Sofia, her brother Diego, and their dog Lola — on the table. The room already feels a little more like hers, and she smiles.
मी माझ्या खोलीत आहे.	I am in my room.
माझी सुटकेस मोठी आहे.	My suitcase is big.
मी सुटकेस उघडते.	I open the suitcase.
मी माझे कपडे बाहेर काढते.	I take my clothes out.
सुटकेसमध्ये एक फोटो आहे.	There is a photo in the suitcase.
तो एका फ्रेममध्ये आहे.	It is in a frame.

Storyboard: Maya sits on the edge of her bed, connects to the room's wifi, and makes a quick audio call to her parents back in Mexico. She assures them that she is safely in her room and answers their worried questions by confirming that everything is fine.
मी पलंगावर आहे.	I am on the bed.
मी माझा फोन घेते.	I take my phone.
मी रूमच्या वायफायशी कनेक्ट करते.	I connect to the room's wifi.
मी मेक्सिकोला ऑडिओ कॉल करते.	I make an audio call to Mexico.
फोनवर माझे आई-वडील आहेत.	My parents are on the phone.
माझी आई विचारते, "माया, तू कशी आहेस?"	My mother asks, "Maya, how are you?"
मी सांगते, "आई, मी ठीक आहे."	I say, "Mom, I am fine."
मी विचारते, "तुम्ही कसे आहात?"	I ask, "How are you?"
माझे वडील म्हणतात, "आम्ही ठीक आहोत."	My father says, "We are fine."
ते विचारतात, "माया, तू आता कुठे आहेस?"	He asks, "Maya, where are you now?"
मी सांगते, "मी आता माझ्या रूममध्ये आहे."	I say, "I am in my room now."
"रूम चांगली आहे का?" माझी आई विचारते.	"Is the room good?" my mother asks.
मी उत्तर देते, "हो, रूम खूप छान आहे."	I answer, "Yes, the room is very nice."
बाबा विचारतात, "तू सुरक्षित आहेस का?"	Dad asks, "Are you safe?"
मी सांगते, "हो बाबा, मी अगदी सुरक्षित आहे."	I say, "Yes Dad, I am perfectly safe."
ते थोडे काळजीत आहेत.	They are a little worried.
पण आता ते आनंदी आहेत.	But now they are happy.
इथे मुंबईत सर्व काही ठीक आहे.	Everything is fine here in Mumbai.
मी फोन ठेवते.	I hang up the phone.
meeting asha
Storyboard: As Maya steps into the hallway, another door on the landing opens: a kind woman is heading out with her small dog for its late-night walk. She smiles, introduces herself as Asha, and asks whether Maya is new here and whether she needs anything; Maya says where she is from, and they part warmly.
मी खोलीच्या बाहेर येते.	I come out of the room.
समोरचा दरवाजा उघडतो.	The opposite door opens.
तिथे एक महिला आहे.	There is a woman there.
तिच्यासोबत एक लहान कुत्रा आहे.	There is a small dog with her.
ती महिला हसते.	The woman smiles.
"नमस्कार," ती म्हणते.	"Hello," she says.
"नमस्कार," मी म्हणते.	"Hello," I say.
"माझं नाव आशा आहे," ती म्हणते.	"My name is Asha," she says.
"आणि हा माझा कुत्रा, मोती आहे."	"And this is my dog, Moti."
"तुम्ही इथे नवीन आहात का?" ती विचारते.	"Are you new here?" she asks.
"हो, मी नवीन आहे," मी म्हणते.	"Yes, I am new," I say.
"माझं नाव माया आहे."	"My name is Maya."
"मी मेक्सिकोची आहे."	"I am from Mexico."
"अरे वा!" आशा म्हणते.	"Oh wow!" Asha says.
"तुम्हाला काही हवं आहे का?" ती विचारते.	"Do you need anything?" she asks.
"नाही, धन्यवाद," मी म्हणते.	"No, thank you," I say.
"सगळं ठीक आहे."	"Everything is fine."
"ठीक आहे."	"Okay."
"शुभ रात्री, माया," ती म्हणते.	"Good night, Maya," she says.
"शुभ रात्री, आशा," मी म्हणते.	"Good night, Asha," I say.
ती आणि मोती बाहेर जातात.	She and Moti go outside.
first night
Storyboard: Maya returns to her room, washes her face in the small bathroom, and crawls into bed. She listens to the whir of the fan and the hum of the city, excited and nervous that her new life in India is finally beginning.
मी माझ्या खोलीत येते.	I come into my room.
मी दार बंद करते.	I close the door.
खोलीत एक लहान बाथरूम आहे.	There is a small bathroom in the room.
मी आत जाते.	I go inside.
मी माझा चेहरा धुते.	I wash my face.
पाणी थंड आणि छान आहे.	The water is cold and nice.
आता मी पलंगावर जाते.	Now I go to bed.
आज मी खूप थकले आहे.	I am very tired today.
खोलीत पंखा चालू आहे.	The fan in the room is on.
पंख्याचा आवाज मोठा आहे.	The sound of the fan is loud.
खिडकीच्या बाहेर मुंबई शहर आहे.	Outside the window is the city of Mumbai.
हे शहर शांत नाही.	This city is not quiet.
मी शहराचे आवाज ऐकते.	I listen to the sounds of the city.
मी थोडी अस्वस्थ आहे.	I am a little nervous.
पण मी खूप खूश पण आहे.	But I am also very happy.
माझं नवीन आयुष्य आता सुरू होतं.	My new life begins now.
भारतात माझी ही पहिली रात्र आहे.	This is my first night in India.
मी माझे डोळे मिटते.	I close my eyes.
