Week 13: Maya visits an Irani café

Storyboard: Maya walks into an old, bustling Irani café in Mumbai. She looks around the room and notices the vintage atmosphere, from the dark wooden chairs and checkered tablecloths to the large, slow ceiling fans turning above.
मी मुंबईतील एका जुन्या कॅफेबाहेर उभी आहे.	I am standing outside an old café in Mumbai.
हा एक प्रसिद्ध इराणी कॅफे आहे.	This is a famous Irani café.
मी दरवाजा उघडते.	I open the door.
मी आत जाते.	I go inside.
कॅफेमध्ये खूप गर्दी आहे.	The café is very crowded.
मला चहाचा छान वास येतो.	I catch a nice smell of tea.
मी आजूबाजूला पाहते.	I look around.
कॅफेचे वातावरण खूप जुने आणि सुंदर आहे.	The atmosphere of the café is very old and beautiful.
इथे सगळीकडे लाकडी खुर्च्या आहेत.	There are wooden chairs everywhere here.
त्यांचा रंग गडद आहे.	Their color is dark.
टेबलांवर चौकडीचे कापड आहे.	There is a checkered cloth on the tables.
मी वर छताकडे पाहते.	I look up at the ceiling.
तिथे खूप मोठे पंखे आहेत.	There are very large fans there.
ते पंखे खूप हळू फिरत आहेत.	Those fans are turning very slowly.
मला ही जागा खूप आवडते.	I really like this place.
आता मला बसण्यासाठी जागा हवी आहे.	Now I want a place to sit.
मला चहा हवा आहे.	I want tea.
मी पुढे चालत जाते.	I walk forward.

Storyboard: Maya walks up to the grand wooden counter near the entrance. She politely greets the elderly man sitting behind the cash register, addressing him respectfully as chacha, and looks at the handwritten menu displayed under the glass.
मी प्रवेशद्वाराजवळ जाते.	I go near the entrance.
तिथे एक मोठं लाकडी काउंटर आहे.	There is a big wooden counter there.
काउंटरमागे एक वयस्कर गृहस्थ बसले आहेत.	An elderly gentleman is sitting behind the counter.
ते कॅशिअर आहेत.	He is the cashier.
मी काउंटरच्या जवळ उभी राहते.	I stand close to the counter.
मी हसते आणि त्यांना नमस्कार करते.	I smile and greet him.
"नमस्कार काका," मी आदराने म्हणते.	"Namaskar Kaka," I say respectfully.
"नमस्कार मॅडम," ते हसून म्हणतात.	"Namaskar Madam," he says with a smile.
मग मी काउंटरवर खाली पाहते.	Then I look down at the counter.
काउंटरवर एक मोठी काच आहे.	There is a big glass on the counter.
त्या काचेखाली एक मेन्यू आहे.	There is a menu under that glass.
तो हाताने लिहिलेला मेन्यू आहे.	It is a handwritten menu.
मी तो मेन्यू काळजीपूर्वक वाचते.	I read that menu carefully.
मेन्यूमध्ये अनेक जुने पदार्थ आहेत.	There are many old dishes on the menu.
मला खूप भूक लागली आहे.	I am very hungry.
मला काहीतरी खायला हवं आहे.	I want something to eat.
इथे चांगला चहा मिळेल का?	Will I get good tea here?
मी माझ्या ऑर्डरचा विचार करते.	I think about my order.
ordering classics
Storyboard: Maya orders her food, politely asking the cashier if a cutting chai and a classic bun maska are available. The man nods warmly, addresses her as madam, and tells her to find a table and wait.
मी काउंटरवर मेनू पाहते.	I look at the menu on the counter.
तिथे अनेक पदार्थ आहेत.	There are many items there.
पण मला कटिंग चहा हवा आहे.	But I want a cutting chai.
आणि मला बन मस्कासुद्धा हवा आहे.	And I also want a bun maska.
मी त्या काकांशी बोलते.	I speak to the uncle.
"काका, एक कटिंग चहा मिळेल का?" मी विचारते.	"Uncle, is a cutting chai available?" I ask.
"आणि एक क्लासिक बन मस्कासुद्धा?"	"And a classic bun maska too?"
ते माझ्याकडे पाहून हसतात.	He looks at me and smiles.
ते प्रेमाने मान हलवतात.	He warmly nods his head.
"हो मॅडम, नक्की मिळेल," ते म्हणतात.	"Yes Madam, it is definitely available," he says.
"अजून काही हवं आहे का?"	"Do you want anything else?"
"नाही, सध्या एवढंच," मी उत्तर देते.	"No, just this much for now," I reply.
मी त्यांना पैशांबद्दल विचारते.	I ask him about the money.
"मी आता पैसे देऊ का?"	"Shall I give the money now?"
"नाही मॅडम," काका सांगतात.	"No Madam," the uncle tells me.
"तुम्ही आत जा."	"You go inside."
"एका रिकाम्या टेबलवर बसा."	"Sit at an empty table."
"तुमची ऑर्डर तिथेच येईल."	"Your order will come right there."
मी त्यांना धन्यवाद म्हणते.	I say thank you to him.
आणि मी आतल्या बाजूला जाते.	And I go towards the inside.
finding a seat
Storyboard: Keeping her bag securely with her, Maya scans the busy room and finds a small empty table near the window. She takes a seat under the slow ceiling fans and takes a moment to appreciate the lively, nostalgic charm of the heritage space.
कॅफेमध्ये खूप गर्दी आहे.	The café is very crowded.
मी माझी बॅग घट्ट धरते.	I hold my bag securely.
मी सगळीकडे पाहते.	I look everywhere.
मला एक रिकामी जागा हवी आहे.	I need an empty seat.
खिडकीजवळ एक लहान टेबल आहे.	There is a small table near the window.
तिथे एक खुर्ची रिकामी आहे.	One chair is empty there.
शेजारच्या टेबलवर एक काका आहेत.	There is an elderly man at the neighboring table.
मी त्यांना विचारते.	I ask him.
"काका, ही जागा मिळेल का?"	"Kaka, is this seat available?"
काका हसतात आणि म्हणतात, "हो, मॅडम."	The elderly man smiles and says, "Yes, madam."
मी त्यांना "धन्यवाद" म्हणते.	I say "Thank you" to him.
मी त्या लाकडी खुर्चीवर बसते.	I sit on that wooden chair.
मी माझी बॅग माझ्याजवळ ठेवते.	I keep my bag near me.
मी वर पाहते.	I look up.
छतावर मोठे पंखे आहेत.	There are large fans on the ceiling.
ते जुने पंखे हळूहळू फिरतात.	Those old fans turn slowly.
इथलं वातावरण खूप प्रसन्न आहे.	The atmosphere here is very pleasant.
मला ही जुनी जागा खूप आवडते.	I like this old place a lot.
मी खिडकीतून बाहेर पाहते.	I look outside through the window.
आता मी माझ्या चहाची वाट पाहते.	Now I wait for my tea.
the waiter arrives
Storyboard: A young waiter soon approaches her table carrying a tray. Maya clears a space, guides him to set the chai and bun maska down, and sincerely thanks him for the service.
मी टेबलाजवळ बसले आहे.	I am sitting at the table.
एक तरुण वेटर माझ्या टेबलाकडे येतो.	A young waiter comes to my table.
त्याच्या हातात एक ट्रे आहे.	He has a tray in his hands.
ट्रेमध्ये माझा चहा आणि बन मस्का आहे.	My tea and bun maska are on the tray.
माझं टेबल थोडं लहान आहे.	My table is a little small.
मी टेबलावर थोडी जागा करते.	I make some space on the table.
"कृपया, चहा इथे ठेवाल का?" मी विचारते.	"Will you please put the tea here?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम," वेटर म्हणतो.	"Yes, Madam," the waiter says.
तो बन मस्क्याची प्लेट टेबलावर ठेवतो.	He puts the plate of bun maska on the table.
मग तो चहाचा ग्लास ठेवतो.	Then he puts the glass of tea.
"मला एक नॅपकिन द्याल का?" मी विचारते.	"Will you give me a napkin?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम, लगेच देतो," तो म्हणतो.	"Yes, Madam, I will give it right away," he says.
तो मला एक नॅपकिन देतो.	He gives me a napkin.
"धन्यवाद दादा," मी म्हणते.	"Thank you, Dada," I say.
"वेलकम मॅडम," तो हसून म्हणतो.	"Welcome, Madam," he says with a smile.
तो दुसऱ्या टेबलाकडे जातो.	He goes to another table.
मी माझा फोन बाजूला ठेवते.	I put my phone aside.
चहा खूप गरम आहे.	The tea is very hot.
चहाचा वास खूप छान आहे.	The tea smells very nice.
मी आनंदाने माझा चहा पिते.	I happily drink my tea.
enjoying the flavors
Storyboard: Maya takes a sip of the sweet, strong tea and dips the deeply buttered bun into the cup. She watches the vibrant street life outside the open doors, thoroughly enjoying the authentic Mumbai culinary experience.
माझ्या समोर चहा आणि बन मस्का आहे.	The tea and bun maska are in front of me.
मी चहाचा एक घोट घेते.	I take a sip of the tea.
चहा गोड आणि कडक आहे.	The tea is sweet and strong.
बन खूप मऊ आहे.	The bun is very soft.
त्यात भरपूर लोणी आहे.	There is plenty of butter in it.
मी बनचा एक तुकडा मोडते.	I break a piece of the bun.
मी तो तुकडा चहात बुडवते.	I dip that piece in the tea.
चव एकदम मस्त आहे!	The taste is absolutely amazing!
मी खिडकीबाहेर बघते.	I look outside the window.
बाहेर रस्त्यावर खूप गर्दी आहे.	There is a lot of crowd on the street outside.
एक वेटर माझ्या टेबलाजवळ येतो.	A waiter comes near my table.
"दादा, मला एक ग्लास पाणी मिळेल का?" मी त्याला विचारते.	"Dada, could I get a glass of water?" I ask him.
"हो मॅडम," तो म्हणतो.	"Yes madam," he says.
तो मला पाणी देतो.	He gives me the water.
"धन्यवाद," मी म्हणते.	"Thank you," I say.
मी पुन्हा माझा चहा पिते.	I drink my tea again.
हा खरा मुंबईचा अनुभव आहे.	This is the true Mumbai experience.
मला ही जागा खूप आवडते.	I like this place a lot.
ordering sweet treat
Storyboard: Noticing a glass jar of baked goods on a nearby counter, Maya decides she wants something sweet. She catches the waiter's attention, calls him bhaiya, and politely requests him to bring her a slice of fresh mawa cake.
माझं लक्ष जवळच्या काऊंटरकडे जातं.	My attention goes to the nearby counter.
तिथे एक मोठी काचेची बरणी आहे.	There is a large glass jar there.
त्यात बेकरीचे छान पदार्थ आहेत.	There are nice bakery items in it.
मला आता काहीतरी गोड हवं आहे.	I want something sweet now.
मी आजूबाजूला पाहते.	I look around.
वेटर जवळच उभा आहे.	The waiter is standing nearby.
मी त्याला बोलावते.	I call him over.
तो माझ्या टेबलाजवळ येतो.	He comes near my table.
"दादा, मला ताजा मावा केक मिळेल का?" मी नम्रपणे विचारते.	"Bhaiya, will I get a fresh mawa cake?" I ask politely.
तो हसतो आणि मान हलवतो.	He smiles and nods.
"हो मॅडम, एकदम ताजा आहे," तो सांगतो.	"Yes Madam, it is completely fresh," he says.
"मग मला एक स्लाईस द्याल का?" मी विचारते.	"Then will you give me one slice?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम, लगेच आणतो," तो म्हणतो.	"Yes Madam, I will bring it right away," he says.
तो पुन्हा काऊंटरकडे जातो.	He goes towards the counter again.
तो बरणीतून केकचा एक स्लाईस काढतो.	He takes out a slice of cake from the jar.
मी माझ्या गोड पदार्थाची आनंदाने वाट पाहते.	I happily wait for my sweet treat.
asking for bill
Storyboard: After finishing the rich cake and the last drop of tea, Maya signals the waiter one more time. She politely explains that she is ready to go and asks him to bring the bill to her table.
मी माझा केक संपवते.	I finish my cake.
बशी आता रिकामी आहे.	The plate is now empty.
मी चहाचा शेवटचा घोट घेते.	I take the last sip of the tea.
चहा खरोखरच खूप छान आहे.	The tea is really very good.
आता मला जायचं आहे.	Now I want to go.
मी वेटरला शोधते.	I look for the waiter.
तो दुसऱ्या टेबलाजवळ आहे.	He is near another table.
मी त्याला खूण करते.	I signal to him.
"दादा, जरा इकडे येता का?" मी विचारते.	"Dada, will you come here for a moment?" I ask.
तो माझ्या टेबलाजवळ येतो.	He comes to my table.
"बोला मॅडम, अजून काही हवं का?" तो विचारतो.	"Tell me Madam, do you want anything else?" he asks.
"नाही, धन्यवाद," मी म्हणते.	"No, thank you," I say.
"सगळं खूप चविष्ट होतं."	"Everything was very tasty."
"मला आता बिल हवं आहे."	"I want the bill now."
"कृपया, मला बिल द्याल का?"	"Will you please give me the bill?"
"हो मॅडम, एकच मिनिट," तो म्हणतो.	"Yes Madam, just a minute," he says.
तो समोरच्या काउंटरकडे जातो.	He goes to the front counter.
तो लगेच परत येतो.	He comes back immediately.
"हे घ्या मॅडम, तुमचं बिल," असं म्हणत तो एक छोटा कागद देतो.	"Take this Madam, your bill," he says, handing over a small paper.
मी बिल घेते आणि त्याला धन्यवाद देते.	I take the bill and thank him.
paying and leaving
Storyboard: Maya takes the paper slip back to the front counter. She hands the correct amount of rupees to the elderly cashier, thanks him graciously for the wonderful food, and steps back out into the bustling city evening.
मी टेबलावरून माझं बिल घेते.	I take my bill from the table.
मी समोरच्या काउंटरकडे जाते.	I go to the front counter.
तिथे ते काका बसले आहेत.	The elderly man is sitting there.
मी ती कागदाची पावती त्यांना देते.	I give that paper slip to him.
"काका, हे माझं बिल," मी म्हणते.	"Uncle, this is my bill," I say.
"एकशे पन्नास रुपये, मॅडम," ते म्हणतात.	"One hundred and fifty rupees, madam," he says.
मी पर्समधून बरोबर एकशे पन्नास रुपये काढते.	I take out exactly one hundred and fifty rupees from my purse.
"हे घ्या पैसे," मी म्हणते.	"Here is the money," I say.
ते पैसे घेतात.	He takes the money.
"काका, मला याची पावती मिळेल का?" मी विचारते.	"Uncle, can I get a receipt for this?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम, नक्की मिळेल," ते म्हणतात.	"Yes madam, you will definitely get it," he says.
ते मला पावती देतात.	He gives me the receipt.
"काका, इथला चहा आणि बन मस्का खूप छान होता," मी म्हणते.	"Uncle, the tea and bun maska here was very nice," I say.
"मवा केक पण मला खूप आवडला," मी सांगते.	"I also liked the mawa cake a lot," I tell him.
"धन्यवाद मॅडम, पुन्हा नक्की या," ते हसून म्हणतात.	"Thank you madam, definitely come again," he says with a smile.
"हो, खूप खूप धन्यवाद," मी म्हणते.	"Yes, thank you very much," I say.
मी कॅफेच्या बाहेर येते.	I step out of the café.
आता संध्याकाळ झाली आहे.	It is evening now.
बाहेरचा रस्ता खूप गजबजलेला आहे.	The street outside is very bustling.
