Storyboard: It is Thursday evening, well after Maya's weekly half-past-five badminton session. She walks to the club counter and returns her rented racket. Her friends Amit, Neha, and Sanjay are waiting for her near the courts.
आज गुरुवारची संध्याकाळ आहे.Today is Thursday evening.
माझा बॅडमिंटनचा खेळ संपला.My badminton game finished.
मी आज अमित, नेहा आणि संजयसोबत खेळले.I played with Amit, Neha, and Sanjay today.
आता मी क्लबच्या काउंटरवर जाते.Now I go to the club counter.
तिथे एक दादा बसले आहेत.A man is sitting there.
मी माझं भाड्याचं रॅकेट काउंटरवर ठेवते.I put my rented racket on the counter.
"दादा," मी म्हणते."Dada," I say.
ते माझ्याकडे बघतात आणि विचारतात, "बोला मॅडम."He looks at me and asks, "Tell me, Madam."
"मी साडेपाच वाजता हे रॅकेट घेतलं," मी सांगते."I took this racket at half past five," I say.
"ठीक आहे, मॅडम," दादा म्हणतात."Okay, Madam," Dada says.

Storyboard: Stepping outside the club, the friends grab cutting chai from a local vendor. Now comfortable friends, Amit, Neha, and Sanjay slip into informal address with Maya for the first time, and ask her how she originally ended up moving to Mumbai.
आम्ही बॅडमिंटन क्लबच्या बाहेर येतो.We come out of the badminton club.
जवळच एक चहाची टपरी आहे.There is a tea stall nearby.
आम्ही तिथे चालत जातो.We walk there.
अमित चहावाल्याला म्हणतो, "दादा, चार कटिंग चहा द्या."Amit says to the tea vendor, "Dada, give four cutting chais."
दादा आम्हाला गरम चहा देतो.Dada gives us hot tea.
आम्ही सर्वजण चहाचे ग्लास हातात घेतो.We all take the glasses of tea in our hands.
नेहा माझ्याकडे बघते आणि हसते.Neha looks at me and smiles.
ती म्हणते, "माया, आपण आता चांगले मित्र आहोत."She says, "Maya, we are good friends now."
"आपण आता एकमेकांना 'तुम्ही' ऐवजी 'तू' म्हणूया.""Let's call each other 'tu' instead of 'tumhi' now."
संजय हसून म्हणतो, "हो, नक्कीच!"Sanjay laughs and says, "Yes, definitely!"
मग अमित मला विचारतो, "माया, तू मुंबईत कधी आलीस?"Then Amit asks me, "Maya, when did you come to Mumbai?"
मी म्हणते, "मी जानेवारीत मुंबईत आले."I say, "I came to Mumbai in January."
संजय कुतूहलाने विचारतो, "तू मेक्सिकोवरून एवढ्या दूर का आलीस?"Sanjay asks curiously, "Why did you come this far from Mexico?"
मी उत्तर देते, "मला इथे एका सॉफ्टवेअर कंपनीत नोकरी मिळाली."I answer, "I got a job in a software company here."
"म्हणून मी भारतात आले.""That is why I came to India."
नेहा विचारते, "तू इथे पहिल्यांदा आलीस, तेव्हा काय काय झालं?"Neha asks, "When you first came here, what all happened?"
मला जानेवारीतले ते पहिले दिवस आठवतात.I remember those first days in January.

Storyboard: Maya begins her story, recalling the past. She recounts landing in January for her software job, stepping out of the airport with her heavy bags, and nervously handing a taxi driver a slip of paper with her new apartment address.

बाहेर खूप लोक आणि टॅक्सी होत्या.There were many people and taxis outside.
मी थोडी घाबरले.I got a little scared.
माझ्या हातात माझा फोन होता.My phone was in my hand.

मी एका टॅक्सीजवळ गेले.I went near a taxi.

"दादा, मला या पत्त्यावर जायचं आहे," मी म्हणाले."Dada, I want to go to this address," I said.
दादांनी तो पत्ता वाचला.Dada read that address.
ते मला म्हणाले, "मॅडम, गाडीत बसा."He said to me, "Madam, sit in the car."

Storyboard: Continuing her tale, Maya describes her very first day at the apartment building. She explains how she arrived at her door and met her kind neighbour Asha, who immediately made her feel welcome in the unfamiliar city.
"मग मी माझ्या नव्या इमारतीजवळ पोहोचले," मी त्यांना पुढे सांगितले."Then I reached near my new building," I told them further.
मी टॅक्सीतून माझं जड सामान बाहेर काढलं.I took my heavy luggage out of the taxi.
मी हळूहळू माझ्या घराच्या दरवाजाजवळ गेले.I slowly went near the door of my house.
तेव्हा अचानक शेजारचा दरवाजा उघडला.Then suddenly the neighbour's door opened.
तिथून एक हसतमुख स्त्री बाहेर आली.A smiling woman came out from there.
ती आशा होती.She was Asha.
आशाने मला पाहिलं आणि ती हसली.Asha saw me and she smiled.
ती म्हणाली, 'नमस्कार!'She said, 'Hello!'
'तुम्ही नवीन शेजारी आहात का?''Are you the new neighbour?'
मी म्हणाले, 'हो, माझं नाव माया आहे.'I said, 'Yes, my name is Maya.'
मी तिला सांगितलं, 'मी मेक्सिकोवरून आले.'I told her, 'I came from Mexico.'
आशाने विचारलं, 'तुम्हाला काही हवं आहे का?'Asha asked, 'Do you need anything?'
मी म्हणाले, 'नाही, सगळं ठीक आहे.'I said, 'No, everything is fine.'
तिचा कुत्रा मोती तिच्यासोबत फिरायला निघाला होता.Her dog Moti was heading out for a walk with her.
मोतीने माझ्यासमोर आनंदाने शेपटी हलवली.Moti wagged his tail happily in front of me.
आशा हसून म्हणाली, 'माया, मुंबईत तुमचं स्वागत आहे!'Asha smiled and said, 'Maya, welcome to Mumbai!'
त्या पहिल्या दिवशी मला खूप छान वाटलं.I felt very nice on that first day.
मला या अनोळखी शहरात पहिली मैत्रीण मिळाली.I found my first friend in this unfamiliar city.

first day at office
Storyboard: Maya finishes her timeline by recounting her first day at the software company. She describes how she went to the office, logged into her computer, and met her helpful colleague Rohan. Amit, Neha, and Sanjay listen warmly to the story.
मग, सोमवार आला.Then, Monday came.
तो माझा ऑफिसचा पहिला दिवस होता.That was my first day at the office.
मी सकाळी लवकर उठले.I woke up early in the morning.
मी बसने ऑफिसला गेले.I went to the office by bus.
माझं नवीन ऑफिस खूप मोठं होतं.My new office was very big.

रोहन मला भेटायला आला.Rohan came to meet me.

आता आमचा चहा संपला.Now our tea was finished.

Storyboard: Bidding Amit, Neha, and Sanjay a friendly goodbye, Maya walks to the nearby bus stop. She boards her regular BEST bus, looking out the window and reflecting happily on those busy first few days in the city.
आम्ही चहा संपवला.We finished the tea.
मी अमित, नेहा आणि संजयचा निरोप घेतला.I said goodbye to Amit, Neha, and Sanjay.
"बाय!""Bye!"
"पुढच्या गुरुवारी भेटूया!""Let's meet next Thursday!"

जानेवारीत मी पहिल्यांदा या शहरात आले.In January, I came to this city for the first time.

Storyboard: Back in her quiet apartment, Maya opens her laptop and initiates a video call home to Mexico. Her mother answers the call with a bright smile, and Maya greets her with her usual warm respect.

"खूप छान!""Very nice!"
"गेल्या आठवड्यात तू खूप व्यस्त होतीस," आई म्हणाली."Last week you were very busy," Mom said.
"हो, पण आज मला वेळ मिळाला," मी तिला सांगितलं."Yes, but today I got time," I told her.
"खेळल्यानंतर मी मित्रांसोबत कटिंग चहा प्यायला," मी हसत म्हणाले."After playing I drank cutting chai with friends," I said smiling.
"अरे वा!""Oh wow!"
"तुम्ही फक्त चहा प्यायला की काही गप्पा मारल्या?""Did you all just drink tea or did you chat?"
आईने विचारलं.Mom asked.
"आम्ही खूप गप्पा मारल्या," मी उत्तर दिलं."We chatted a lot," I answered.
"मित्रांनी मला माझ्या पहिल्या दिवसांबद्दल विचारलं," मी म्हणाले."My friends asked me about my first days," I said.
"मग तू त्यांना काय सांगितलंस?""Then what did you tell them?"
आईने उत्सुकतेने विचारलं.Mom asked eagerly.
"मी त्यांना जानेवारीतली गोष्ट सांगितली," मी उत्तर दिलं."I told them the story from January," I answered.
"मी जानेवारीत मुंबईत कशी आले, ते सगळं मी त्यांना सांगितलं.""I told them everything about how I came to Mumbai in January."
a mothers request
Storyboard: Maya mentions to her mother that she spent the evening telling her new friends the story of her arrival in Mumbai. Feeling nostalgic, her mother asks to hear the story of that day again, specifically the morning they said goodbye.
मी अजून आईशी बोलत आहे.I am still talking to my mother.
आईचा चेहरा खूप आनंदी आहे.Mother's face is very happy.
"माया, ती गोष्ट मला पण सांग ना," आई म्हणते."Maya, tell me that story too," mother says.
"तुला? तू तर तिथेच होतीस!" मी हसून म्हणते."You? You were right there!" I say, laughing.
"तरी पण, मला तुझ्याकडून ऐकायची आहे," आई म्हणते."Even so, I want to hear it from you," mother says.
मी हो म्हणते.I say yes.
मी गोष्ट पुन्हा सुरू करते.I start the story again.
"त्या रात्री विमान मुंबईत उतरलं…""That night the plane landed in Mumbai…"
आई हसते.Mother smiles.
तिला तो दिवस चांगला आठवतो.She remembers that day well.
"तो दिवस खूप खास होता," आई म्हणते."That day was very special," mother says.
"तू त्यांना मेक्सिकोबद्दल पण सांगितलंस का?" ती विचारते."Did you tell them about Mexico too?" she asks.
"नाही आई," मी म्हणते."No, mother," I say.
"फक्त मुंबईचा भाग.""Only the Mumbai part."
आई थोडी भावुक होते.Mother becomes a little sentimental.
"मला ती गोष्ट परत सांग ना, माया," आई म्हणते."Tell me that story again, Maya," mother says.
"तुझ्या प्रवासाची ती सकाळ.""That morning of your journey."
"जेव्हा आपण विमानतळावर निरोप घेतला.""When we said goodbye at the airport."
मलाही तो दिवस आठवतो.I remember that day too.
मी हसते आणि होकार देते.I smile and say yes.
मी तिच्यासाठी माझी गोष्ट परत सुरू करते.I start my story again for her.

Storyboard: Maya recounts the morning she left Mexico, recalling how she packed her final bags. Her mother affectionately chimes in, adding her own memories of how they stood at the airport gates and shared a tearful, loving goodbye before Maya flew away.
मी स्क्रीनकडे बघून हसते.I look at the screen and smile.
मला जानेवारीतली ती सकाळ आठवते.I remember that morning in January.
"आई, मी त्या दिवशी सकाळी लवकर उठले," मी सांगते."Mom, I woke up early in the morning that day," I say.
"मी माझी शेवटची बॅग भरली.""I packed my last bag."

"डिएगोने गाडी चालवली," मी तिला आठवण करून देते."Diego drove the car," I remind her.

"आपण गेटजवळ उभे राहिलो.""We stood near the gate."
"आणि तिथे तू मला घट्ट मिठी मारलीस.""And there you hugged me tightly."
"मी त्या दिवशी खूप रडले," मी कबूल करते."I cried a lot that day," I admit.
आईचे डोळे थोडे पाणावतात.Mother's eyes tear up a little.
"आपण सगळेच रडलो, माया," ती प्रेमाने म्हणते."We all cried, Maya," she says lovingly.
"आपली लोलासुद्धा खूप उदास होती.""Our Lola was also very sad."
मी म्हणते, "मग मी तुम्हाला निरोप दिला."I say, "Then I said goodbye to you."
"मी माझ्या बॅगा घेतल्या आणि आत गेले.""I took my bags and went inside."
"आणि तू विमानाने मुंबईला आलीस!" आई हसून म्हणते."And you came to Mumbai by plane!" mother says, smiling.
मी होकार देते.I nod in agreement.
तो निरोप खरोखर खूप कठीण होता.That goodbye was truly very difficult.
पण आता मी इथे खूप खुश आहे.But now I am very happy here.
