Week 21: Week 21 — Storyboard (Maya exchanges a shirt before the monsoon)

Storyboard: After finishing her Saturday morning volunteer shift at the neighbourhood café, Maya takes the bus into town on a sticky, humid afternoon to buy a few essential clothes before the monsoon arrives.
आज शनिवार आहे.	Today is Saturday.
कॅफेमध्ये माझी सकाळची कामाची वेळ आता संपली आहे.	My morning work shift at the café is now over.
मी सुनीताला भेटते आणि तिचा निरोप घेते.	I meet Sunita and say goodbye to her.
बाहेर खूप उकडत आहे.	It is very humid outside.
आज दुपारची हवा खूप गरम आणि चिकचिकीत आहे.	Today's afternoon air is very hot and sticky.
मुंबईचे हवामान आता वेगाने बदलत आहे.	Mumbai's weather is changing rapidly now.
लवकरच जोरदार पाऊस सुरू होणार आहे.	The heavy rains are going to start soon.
पावसाळ्यापूर्वी मला काही महत्त्वाचे कपडे विकत घ्यायचे आहेत.	Before the monsoon, I want to buy some essential clothes.
माझ्याकडे रेनकोट नाही.	I do not have a raincoat.
मुंबईच्या पावसासाठी एक चांगला आणि मोठा रेनकोट खूप गरजेचा आहे.	A good and large raincoat is very necessary for Mumbai's rain.
मी चालत बस स्टॉपवर जाते आणि बेस्ट बसची वाट पाहते.	I walk to the bus stop and wait for the BEST bus.
थोड्या वेळाने बस येते आणि मी आत चढते.	After a while, the bus arrives and I climb inside.
आज बसमध्ये नेहमीपेक्षा जास्त गर्दी आहे.	Today the bus is more crowded than usual.
मी तिकिटाचे पैसे देते आणि उभी राहते.	I pay the ticket money and stand.
बस शहराच्या मुख्य बाजारपेठेत पोहोचते.	The bus reaches the city's main market.
मी बसमधून खाली उतरते.	I step down from the bus.
बाजारात सगळीकडे खूप दुकाने आहेत.	There are many shops everywhere in the market.
पावसाळ्याच्या तयारीसाठी लोक खूप खरेदी करत आहेत.	People are doing a lot of shopping in preparation for the monsoon.
आता मला एक चांगले कपड्यांचे दुकान शोधायचे आहे.	Now I have to find a good clothes shop.

Storyboard: At a bustling retail garment shop, Maya speaks to a shopkeeper, politely addressing him as 'bhaiya'. She looks at several raincoats, comparing them to find one that is large and sturdy enough to withstand the heavy Mumbai rains.
मी शहरात एका मोठ्या कपड्यांच्या दुकानात आहे.	I am in a big clothes shop in the city.
दुकानात खूप गर्दी आहे.	There is a lot of crowd in the shop.
लवकरच खरा पावसाळा सुरू होईल.	The real monsoon will start soon.
मला मुंबईच्या पावसासाठी एक चांगला रेनकोट हवा आहे.	I want a good raincoat for the Mumbai rains.
मी दुकानदाराकडे जाते.	I go to the shopkeeper.
"दादा, मला एक चांगला रेनकोट दाखवा," मी म्हणते.	"Dada, show me a good raincoat," I say.
ते मला एक निळा रेनकोट दाखवतात.	He shows me a blue raincoat.
मी तो रेनकोट बघते.	I look at that raincoat.
पण तो रेनकोट थोडा लहान आहे.	But that raincoat is a little small.
"तुमच्याकडे यापेक्षा मोठा रेनकोट आहे का?" मी विचारते.	"Do you have a bigger raincoat than this?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम, हा काळा रेनकोट बघा," दादा म्हणतात.	"Yes madam, look at this black raincoat," Dada says.
हा काळा रेनकोट मोठा आहे.	This black raincoat is big.
तो निळ्या रेनकोटपेक्षा जाडही आहे.	It is also thicker than the blue raincoat.
मुंबईचा पाऊस खूप जास्त असतो.	The Mumbai rains are very heavy.
त्यामुळे मला एक मजबूत रेनकोट पाहिजे.	Therefore I need a sturdy raincoat.
"हा काळा रेनकोट मजबूत आहे का?" मी विचारते.	"Is this black raincoat sturdy?" I ask.
"हो मॅडम, हा पावसात खूप छान टिकतो," ते सांगतात.	"Yes madam, this lasts very well in the rain," he tells me.
मला हा मोठा रेनकोट आवडतो.	I like this big raincoat.
"मला हाच रेनकोट द्या," मी म्हणते.	"Give me this very raincoat," I say.
मी पैसे देते आणि तो रेनकोट विकत घेते.	I pay the money and buy that raincoat.
buying the shirt
Storyboard: Before leaving the shop, a bright, patterned cotton shirt catches her eye. Feeling drained from the oppressive humidity, Maya quickly buys it, collecting her paper receipt without trying the shirt on, and heads back to her flat.
मी रेनकोटची पिशवी घेते.	I take the raincoat bag.
मी दुकानातून बाहेर जायला निघते.	I start to leave the shop.
तेवढ्यात मला एक सुंदर शर्ट दिसतो.	Just then, I see a beautiful shirt.
तो एक सुती शर्ट आहे.	It is a cotton shirt.
त्यावर एक छान नक्षी आहे.	It has a nice pattern on it.
आज खूप उकाडा आहे.	It is very hot and humid today.
मला आता खूप थकवा आला आहे.	I am feeling very tired now.
मी विचारते, "दादा, हा शर्ट कितीला आहे?"	I ask, "Brother, how much is this shirt?"
ते म्हणतात, "मॅडम, हा पाचशे रुपयांचा आहे."	He says, "Madam, it is for five hundred rupees."
मला तो शर्ट बरोबर वाटतो.	The shirt seems fine to me.
त्यामुळे मी तो तिथे घालून बघत नाही.	Therefore, I don't try it on there.
मी त्यांना पाचशे रुपये देते.	I give him five hundred rupees.
ते मला शर्ट आणि एक कागदी पावती देतात.	He gives me the shirt and a paper receipt.
मी ती पावती काळजीपूर्वक माझ्या पर्समध्ये ठेवते.	I carefully keep that receipt in my purse.
आता मला थेट माझ्या फ्लॅटवर जायचे आहे.	Now I want to go straight to my flat.
मी दुकानातून बाहेर येते.	I come out of the shop.
मी घरी जायला बस पकडते.	I catch a bus to go home.

Storyboard: Back in her quiet flat, Maya unpacks her bags and eagerly tries on the new cotton shirt. She struggles with the shoulders and quickly realizes that the shirt is simply too small for her.
मी माझ्या फ्लॅटमध्ये परत येते.	I come back to my flat.
बाहेर खूप उकडत आहे.	It is very humid outside.
पण घरात छान शांतता आहे.	But it is nice and quiet in the house.
मी माझ्या पिशव्या पलंगावर ठेवते.	I put my bags on the bed.
मी पिशवीतून नवीन कपडे बाहेर काढते.	I take the new clothes out of the bag.
तो नवीन सुती शर्ट खूप सुंदर दिसतो.	That new cotton shirt looks very beautiful.
मला तो आता घालून बघायचा आहे.	I want to try it on now.
मी तो शर्ट घालते.	I put the shirt on.
पण एक अडचण आहे.	But there is a problem.
तो खांद्यांजवळ खूप घट्ट आहे.	It is very tight near the shoulders.
हा शर्ट माझ्यासाठी खूप लहान आहे.	This shirt is too small for me.
तो माझ्या जुन्या शर्टपेक्षा लहान आहे.	It is smaller than my old shirt.

Storyboard: Deciding against a second exhausting bus commute on the same humid afternoon, Maya waits until Sunday morning. She digs the receipt out of her shopping bag and takes the bus back into town, heading straight for the garment shop.
आज रविवारची सकाळ आहे.	Today is Sunday morning.
कालची दुपार खूप दमट होती.	Yesterday afternoon was very humid.
उकाड्यात परत बसने जाणे खूप थकवणारे होते.	Going back by bus in the heat was very tiring.
म्हणून मी काल घरीच थांबले.	So I just stayed at home yesterday.
आज मी तो नवीन शर्ट बदलण्यासाठी जाणार आहे.	Today I am going to exchange that new shirt.
मला त्यापेक्षा मोठा शर्ट हवा आहे.	I want a bigger shirt than that.
मी माझी कालची खरेदीची पिशवी घेते.	I take my shopping bag from yesterday.
मी पर्समधून पावती काढते.	I take the receipt out of my purse.
ती मी शर्टच्या पिशवीत ठेवते.	I put it in the bag with the shirt.
कपडे बदलण्यासाठी पावती खूप महत्त्वाची असते.	A receipt is very important for exchanging clothes.
मी पिशवी घेऊन निघते.	I take the bag and set out.
मग मी चालत बस थांब्यावर जाते.	Then I walk to the bus stop.
रविवार असल्यामुळे बसमध्ये जास्त गर्दी नाही.	Because it is Sunday, there is not much crowd in the bus.
मी तिकीट काढते आणि खिडकीजवळ बसते.	I buy a ticket and sit near the window.
आज हवा कालपेक्षा थोडी बरी आहे.	The weather is a bit better today than yesterday.
काही वेळातच बस शहरात पोहोचते.	In a short while, the bus reaches town.
मी बसमधून खाली उतरते.	I get down from the bus.
तिथून मी थेट त्या कपड्यांच्या दुकानाकडे जाते.	From there I go straight towards that clothes shop.
दुकान इथून जवळच आहे.	The shop is close by from here.
मी चालत दुकानाकडे निघते.	I walk toward the shop.
asking for exchange
Storyboard: Maya finds the same shopkeeper, shows him the receipt, and explains the issue with the fit. She politely asks him if she can exchange the small shirt for a size that is bigger than this one.
मी रविवारी सकाळी पुन्हा त्या दुकानात जाते.	I go back to that shop on Sunday morning.
दुकानात कालसारखी खूप गर्दी नसते.	There isn't a lot of crowd in the shop like yesterday.
कालचे तेच दादा तिथे असतात.	That same Dada from yesterday is there.
मी त्यांच्याकडे जाते आणि त्यांना नमस्कार करते.	I go to him and greet him.
"दादा, मी काल हा शर्ट तुमच्याकडून घेतला," मी त्यांना सांगते.	"Dada, I bought this shirt from you yesterday," I tell him.
मी पिशवीतून तो नवीन शर्ट बाहेर काढते.	I take that new shirt out of the bag.
सोबत मी त्यांना कालची पावतीसुद्धा देते.	Along with it, I also give him yesterday's receipt.
दादा तो शर्ट आणि पावती हातात घेतात.	Dada takes that shirt and the receipt in his hand.
"काय अडचण आहे, मॅडम?" ते मला विचारतात.	"What is the problem, Madam?" he asks me.
मी त्यांना तो शर्ट दाखवते.	I show him that shirt.
"हा शर्ट मला खूप लहान आहे," मी म्हणते.	"This shirt is too small for me," I say.
"मला हा शर्ट बदलायचा आहे."	"I want to exchange this shirt."
"तुमच्याकडे यापेक्षा मोठी साईझ आहे का?"	"Do you have a size bigger than this?"
दादा शर्टचा टॅग पाहतात.	Dada looks at the shirt's tag.
"हो मॅडम, तुम्हाला दुसरा शर्ट नक्की मिळेल," ते नम्रपणे म्हणतात.	"Yes Madam, you will definitely get another shirt," he says politely.
"हा शर्ट 'स्मॉल' साईझचा आहे."	"This shirt is a 'small' size."
"मी तुम्हाला यापेक्षा मोठा शर्ट देतो."	"I will give you a shirt bigger than this."
"तुम्ही एक मिनिट थांबा," असे म्हणून ते कपाटाकडे जातात.	"You wait one minute," saying this he goes towards the cupboard.
मी तिथेच उभी राहून त्यांची वाट पाहते.	I stand right there and wait for him.
the right fit
Storyboard: The shopkeeper nods and hands her the next size up. Maya steps into the shop's small trial room, tries the bigger shirt on, and sees in the mirror that it fits much better than the previous one. She comes out, tells the shopkeeper this size is right, thanks him for the easy exchange, and heads home feeling fully prepared for the changing season.
दुकानदार मला दुसरा शर्ट देतो.	The shopkeeper gives me another shirt.
तो मला सांगतो, "मॅडम, हा शर्ट त्यापेक्षा मोठा आहे."	He tells me, "Madam, this shirt is bigger than that one."
मी तो शर्ट घेते.	I take that shirt.
दुकानात एक छोटी ट्रायल रूम आहे.	There is a small trial room in the shop.
मी आत जाते आणि नवीन शर्ट घालून बघते.	I go inside and try on the new shirt.
मी आरशात बघते.	I look in the mirror.
हा शर्ट पहिल्या शर्टपेक्षा खूप चांगला आहे.	This shirt is much better than the first shirt.
त्याचे खांदे माझ्यासाठी अगदी बरोबर आहेत.	Its shoulders are exactly right for me.
हा शर्ट आधीच्या शर्टपेक्षा मोठा आणि आरामदायी आहे.	This shirt is bigger and more comfortable than the previous shirt.
मी ट्रायल रूममधून बाहेर येते.	I come out of the trial room.
मी दुकानदाराला म्हणते, "दादा, हा आकार अगदी बरोबर आहे."	I say to the shopkeeper, "Dada, this size is exactly right."
"मला हाच शर्ट हवा आहे."	"I want this very shirt."
तो हसतो आणि माझा पहिला शर्ट परत घेतो.	He smiles and takes my first shirt back.
तो नवीन शर्ट एका पिशवीत ठेवतो.	He puts the new shirt in a bag.
मी त्याला म्हणते, "शर्ट बदलून दिल्याबद्दल धन्यवाद."	I say to him, "Thank you for exchanging the shirt."
आता माझ्याकडे पावसाळ्यासाठी योग्य कपडे आहेत.	Now I have suitable clothes for the monsoon.
माझा नवीन रेनकोट आणि हा शर्ट दोन्ही एकदम छान आहेत.	My new raincoat and this shirt are both absolutely nice.
मी दुकानातून बाहेर पडते.	I step out of the shop.
आता मी बदलत्या हवामानासाठी पूर्णपणे तयार आहे.	Now I am fully prepared for the changing season.
